Pokemon Pokopia players have crafted a number of impressive designs in the Nintendo Switch 2 game, and one fan has managed to build a mind-blowing sculpture of Shiny Charizard in Rocky Ridges. Since the game’s release on March 5, Pokemon Pokopia has become a massive success story, thanks in large part to the game’s creative elements. Players can’t get enough of the design options, and many of the best in-game creations have quickly gone viral on social media.
In less than a month, Pokemon Pokopia has sold more than 2.2 million copies on Nintendo Switch 2. The system has been available for less than a year now, and it’s safe to say that this is the first big system seller since Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. Mainline Pokemon games have always sold quite well on Nintendo systems, but it’s rare for spin-offs like Pokopia to generate huge numbers. As players continue to showcase their creative designs online, it’s a safe bet that more copies of the game will sell, alongside Switch 2 systems.
Pokopia Totally Flips the Script on Longtime Fans of the Franchise
Fans have discovered that Pokemon Pokopia features a major role reversal from mainline entries in the series like FireRed and LeafGreen.
Shiny Charizard Takes Over Pokopia’s Rocky Ridges
In a post on Reddit, user Acceptable-Station58 shared images of a gigantic Shiny Charizard design breathing fire over Pokemon Pokopia‘s Rocky Ridges area. With its head lowered and its massive wings in the air, the Pokemon’s sharp black design is incredibly impressive. The creator did not reveal just how long Shiny Charizard took to build, but they did brush off suggestions that they make similar Blastoise and Venusaur designs, given the amount of time it might take. After building something this intricate, the idea of creating two more might be a little daunting, especially since the Charizard one is still considered a work in progress. When finished, Acceptable-Station58 hopes to have an area for Pokopia‘s Fire-type Pokemon to reside.

Shiny Pokemon can have major differences from their normally colored counterparts, and Shiny Charizard is no exception. While the standard Fire-type has an iconic orange coloration, Charizard is one of several Pokemon that has a black Shiny variant. It’s a great example of how a simple color swap can drastically change a Pokemon’s appearance, and Charizard is arguably one of the most iconic Shiny Pokemon introduced thus far. There may have been better Shiny Pokemon over the years, but few that are as instantly recognizable to casual fans, which is one of the reasons Acceptable-Station58’s creation works so well.
The Shiny Charizard design highlights the creativity that Pokopia players have shown since the game’s launch. In just a few weeks, players have gotten to work crafting a number of impressive designs, from giant Pokemon recreations like this one, to buildings in Pokopia based on locations from the Pokemon anime. The developers have clearly given players plenty of tools to stretch their creative muscles, and that’s the difference between a good sandbox game, and a truly great one.
Pokemon Pokopia‘s developers have plans to improve on the game, and it will be interesting to see what kind of support it sees over time. It seems like there’s a lot of potential to add new additions and features, especially considering how popular the game has proven to be. Pokemon Winds and Waves aren’t slated to be released on Nintendo Switch 2 until sometime in 2027, so there could be a lot of room for Pokopia to grow in the absence of a new Pokemon generation. DLC and expansions have helped cozy games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Disney Dreamlight Valley thrive over several years, and it’s not a stretch to imagine Pokopia doing the same. For now, fans will have to continue building in the game with the tools currently at their disposal.
