Resident Evil Requiem Player Discovers RPD Inconsistency You Can Never Unsee

Both critics and audiences alike have praised Resident Evil Requiem as a return-to-form for the beloved survival horror franchise, with many applauding the game’s intense sequences with Grace, action-packed Leon sections, and engaging story. The visuals of Resident Evil Requiem have also been highlighted as a major step forward with Capcom’s RE Engine, so it may come as a surprise that one particular graphical detail about the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD) seems to have fallen by the wayside and failed to remain consistent over the years.

Resident Evil fans were first introduced to the RPD in Resident Evil 2, and players were delighted to see the return of the Raccoon City Police Department in Resident Evil Requiem. While the visit to the RPD in Requiem is rather brief, longtime fans have enjoyed spending as much time as possible exploring the now-destroyed facility. Surprisingly, this has led to one player discovering a major inconsistency in the RPD’s design, spurring both concerned and humorous responses from online community members.

Resident Evil Requiem Has Genius Village Reference That You Probably Missed

One easy-to-miss Resident Evil Village reference hidden within Resident Evil Requiem is sparking heavy debate between players.

RPD Gate Error in Resident Evil Requiem

Reddit user Witty-Association-97 shared a side-by-side comparison of the RPD front gate in both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Requiem, revealing a major re-design that many players likely missed on their first run through the game. The original version of the RPD front gate features a plain, square design, but the same gate boasts more elaborate metalworking and detailing in Resident Evil Requiem. Despite it being a rather benign change, fans have been shocked to see the unexpectedly new gate, especially since many other parts of the RPD are nearly identical between RE2 and Requiem. Audiences quickly began working towards a “canon” explanation for the change, which brought out hilarious suggestions like the heat from the missile strikes melting the gate into its new form and the BSAA or Zeno wanting to give the old building a bit of a face lift with an improved entrance.

Others chose to find a more reasonable explanation for the new RPD gate, with the general consensus falling on Capcom accidentally re-using the assets for the side gate from the Resident Evil 2 remake B Scenario. Many fans dismissed the gate change as an inconsequential mistake, but some did voice concern for the lack of continuity between RE2 and Requiem. Some shared worries that other inconsistencies may exist in Resident Evil Requiem or may pop up in future installments in the series. It is worth noting that these fears have only been noted among a smaller number of Resi fans, with the majority not paying much mind, but other possible changes may be something to keep an eye out for in subsequent playthroughs of Requiem.

Even with the change to the RPD front gate, Resident Evil Requiem has proven to be incredibly popular among veteran fans of the Resident Evil franchise while also drawing in a number of new players. The success of Resident Evil Requiem has already led to Capcom confirming upcoming DLC for the game, so interested fans will want to stay tuned for any official announcements or updates on what else to expect from Resident Evil Requiem, as well as other future projects in the Resident Evil series.
