007 First Light Announces Release Date Delay For One Particular Platform

007 First Light has been delayed again, but only for the Nintendo Switch 2. The long wait for the stealth action-adventure is finally coming to an end, at least for most players, but not everyone is equally fortunate. Switch 2 users still need to hold on for at least a couple more months before trying out 007 First Light for themselves.

In a year filled to the brim with notable releases, 007 First Light has emerged as one of 2026’s most anticipated games, and it’s got some big shoes to fill. While it’s been a long time since there’s been any new James Bond game, and even longer since fans have gotten a widely acclaimed one, expectations are high now that the IP is in the hands of Hitman developer IO Interactive. Early looks at First Light have seemed promising, too, but some players are in for a bit of a disappointment.

007 First Light Reveals More Characters and Action in Latest Gameplay Trailer

A brand-new gameplay trailer for IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light, gives fans a fresh look at its characters and action.

007 First Light Has Been Delayed on Switch 2 Until Summer 2026

The official 007 First Light Twitter account announced on April 8 that the game won’t come to Nintendo Switch 2 until “later this summer.” This is not the first delay the game has experienced, but it is not as widely impactful as the last one. Back in December 2025, IO Interactive delayed 007 First Light by two months on all platforms, citing the need to “further polish and refine” the title after bringing it to a fully playable state. In this latest delay, IO said it hopes to give players “the best game experience possible,” which makes it sound like there has been some difficulty in getting the Switch 2 version up to the same level as other editions, so the team will need additional time.

It has been a long wait to get to this point. IO Interactive first confirmed it was working on a James Bond game in 2020, though it was only known by the working title Project 007 at the time. A six-year wait is considerable in any context, but it feels all the longer in light of how the last non-mobile Bond game was 2012’s 007 Legends. Still, First Light is nearing its release and will at least beat GTA 6 to the punch, even if Switch 2 users won’t get to play it at the same time as those on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

It’s unclear when exactly the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light will come out. “This summer” is rather vague, but it should mean the platform will get the game sometime before the end of August, or possibly early September. It could very well come out as early as June, too, though it’s hard to say, and any extended wait is disappointing regardless. The delay may sting a little more considering the 007 franchise’s ties with Nintendo consoles, as GoldenEye 007 is regarded as the best Bond game ever made as well as one of the best N64 titles.

As frustrating as it may be for Nintendo fans, release delays on the Switch and Switch 2 are not uncommon. Gearbox recently paused development on Borderlands 4′s Switch 2 version entirely as it focused on other issues. The system’s unique architecture and relatively limited internals may add an extra challenge to developers, or companies may prioritize the PS5, Xbox, and PC for the size of their cumulative market. Whatever the case may be, Switch 2 fans will need to accept a slightly longer wait to see what IO Interactive does with the Bond IP.
