Breath of the Wild Vibes

Breath of the Wild Vibes

The upcoming open-world Steam game Of Peaks and Tides is catching attention right now for giving off some serious Zelda: Breath of the Wild vibes. As Nintendo’s franchise gears up to celebrate its 40th anniversary next year, this upcoming Steam release looks like the PC version of Breath of the Wild that gamers never got, with some Studio Ghibli magic thrown in for good measure.

Of Peaks and Tides was first announced in August 2025, with a trailer promising a whimsical open-world adventure from developer CyancookGames. This studio has never released a game before, and its maiden title looks extremely ambitious. Early signs look very promising that it can live up to the hype, and deliver a Zelda-esque experience for PC gamers. Because Zelda has never officially appeared on PC before (and with no indication it ever will), Of Peaks and Tides has the potential to capture an entirely new audience if it hits the mark.

Steam Users Have Until April 13 to Claim 2024 Zombie Survival Game for Free

Gamers have the opportunity to pick up a zombie survival game released in 2024 on Steam, completely free until April 13.

Of Peaks and Tides Looks Like a Cross Between Studio Ghibli and Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Of Peaks and Tides is an unreleased open-world survival game on Steam, featuring both single-player and co-op gameplay. According to developer CyancookGames, the game is “weaving Eastern Mythology into a vast, living world,” where players take part in physics puzzles heavily inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These physics puzzles mean that “the world responds to your every touch,” where “your choices spark unexpected consequences.” It also features dynamic seasons that progress over time, which shape each player’s experience.

On the surface, the comparisons to Zelda: Breath of the Wild are obvious. Outside the physics puzzles, it seems to nail the BOTW-style combat, too. The world itself resembles that from the hit 2017 open-world game, and thanks to the power of Unreal Engine 5, it arguably looks even better than anything found in Nintendo’s series. The whimsical creatures seen in the screenshots and trailers look heavily inspired by Studio Ghibli movies, making Of Peaks and Tides a unique hybrid of two extremely recognizable styles.

Fans of the survival game genre will have plenty to enjoy here. Players can scavenge in a world where everything is a resource. Craft items and resources to build shelter. There are even wild creature taming mechanics, allowing players to turn animals across the world into fiercely loyal companions. Those who prefer the quiet life can also indulge in relaxing farming, clearing the land to make way for a dream farm.

There has been very little news about the game since its announcement, and its release window remains a mystery. The latest update about Of Peaks and Tides came in February, when CyancookGames confirmed that “gameplay trailers and hands-on demo events are on the way.” Given that this was over two months ago now, it’s fair to say that fans whose interest in the open-world game has been piqued will hopefully be able to check it out soon enough.
