A new Skyrim roleplay server has replaced all the NPCs in the game with real players, in one of the most ambitious mods for the game to date. Named Keizaal Online, this Skyrim mod allows hundreds of adventurers to jump in and play their role in a living, breathing game world.
Because Skyrim is a single-player game, modders have taken it upon themselves to transform it with multiplayer elements to varying degrees. The most famous example is Skyrim Together, which allows players to enjoy the game co-op with friends. Skyrim Together took years to become a smooth experience, due to the inherent difficulties of adding multiplayer to a single-player game. However, that mod kept all the NPCs in Skyrim, whereas Keizaal Online takes a different approach altogether.

Skyrim RP Mod Removes All NPCs
Keizaal Online is a new mod that promises the “ultimate Skyrim multiplayer roleplaying experience,” where players can expect “a synchronized, persistent Tamriel.” It supports hundreds of players at once, meaning that the entire world is filled with others looking to play their part in the land of Skyrim. Players can take on jobs, purchase properties, and trade with others, choosing the life that they want to live in the icy province. Whether it’s the life of a humble farmer or that of a daring adventurer, everyone plays their part in Keizaal Online. This Skyrim mod even has a live map, so users can see where the busiest and quietest areas are across the game world.
Perhaps the most intriguing element of this mod is that it completely removes all of Skyrim‘s NPCs. Keizaal Online’s lead developer, Oren, spoke to Dexerto to explain the decision. “We did that to further the emotion, because we want to achieve a serious roleplay server,” Oren said. “That means trading happens between players. That’s why there’s a big emphasis on the economy… there’s no vendor NPCs that you can buy and sell stuff from.” This makes Keizaal Online an entirely player-driven affair, resulting in unique Skyrim experiences that simply can’t be found in the single-player game.

It’s a testament to Skyrim‘s incredible longevity that it is still receiving extensive mod support after almost 15 years. If anything, the kind of mods being released for the game nowadays are more ambitious than ever, and there is no sign of modders slowing down, either, especially given how long Bethesda is taking to release The Elder Scrolls 6. From small quality-of-life mods to extensive overhauls, there’s something for everyone who decides to mod their version of Skyrim.

Roleplay servers have become popular in other titles, most notably Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Cfx.re, the creator behind the FiveM and RedM mods, was acquired by Rockstar in 2023, which was a testament to the impact these mods had on their respective communities. It will be very interesting to see if Keizaal Online can have a similar impact for Skyrim, especially as word about the mod continues to grow.
