Legacy of the Dark Knight Reveals Absolute Batman, Writer Scott Snyder Reacts

As players count down the days to the release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, developer TT Games, publisher Warner Bros. Games, and DC Comics have revealed a first look at the official in-game LEGO version of Absolute Batman. Penned by Scott Snyder, the Absolute Universe features an alternate version of Batman that has been delighting comic book fans since the series first launched in October 2024. In a surprise to Snyder and readers, the criminal-background Absolute Batman will be making his LEGO debut on May 22 with the release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

For those unfamiliar, Absolute Batman depicts Bruce Wayne as a blue-collar civil engineer who grew up in Crime Alley alongside his friends Killer Croc, The Penguin, and The Riddler, while The Joker has been reimagined as a wealthy billionaire antagonist. The alternate lore of Absolute Batman gives fans the opportunity to see just how successful Bruce Wayne’s crime-fighting tactics are when he is without an arsenal of expensive high-tech equipment, and this fresh take on the Caped Crusader has made Absolute Batman one of the hottest selling comics on the market. As such, it should come as no surprise that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is bringing the rugged Absolute vigilante into the fold as a playable character, and creator Scott Snyder has already given his seal of approval.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Celebrating an Earlier May 2 Media Release

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is celebrating its upcoming release with an earlier May 2 media launch for fans to enjoy.

The official reveal trailer for Absolute Batman in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight not only shows off this tough-as-nails version of the World’s Greatest Detective but also shares Scott Snyder’s first impressions of the LEGO version of his character. LEGO Absolute Batman’s suit features ripped detailing, along with his familiar spiked shoulder pauldrons. Scott Snyder was instantly shocked to see that Absolute Batman was so quickly added to LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight just weeks before the game’s launch and was thoroughly impressed by how “tough” and “perfect” LEGO Absolute Batman looks. He was also happy to see the inclusion of Absolute Catwoman as one of the playable characters in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, saying he “cannot believe” how good Catwoman looks with her jointed tail design.

Scott Snyder thanked the development team for being “magicians” in bringing Absolute Batman into the realm of LEGO gaming and said LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight feels “like a celebration” of the universe of Batman. Players will be able to enjoy exploring Gotham City in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight as Absolute Batman and Absolute Catwoman, along with other beloved familiar faces. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight releases for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 22, with a launch for Nintendo Switch 2 set for later in 2026.

The popularity of Batman video games has spanned across decades between the Arkham series and LEGO entries, and audiences already have high expectations for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Many have seen the inclusion of Absolute Batman as a major win for comic book fans and gamers alike, and some are hopeful that even more Absolute characters will be making surprise appearances in the upcoming LEGO title.
