Critical Role-Style D&D Show Is A Mini Baldur’s Gate 3 Reunion

Critical Role-Style D&D Show Is A Mini Baldur’s Gate 3 Reunion

Critical Role and Dimension 20 are leading the online actual play craze, and have been for several years. So it’s surprising that Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast took so long to really commit to making a series of its own. It’s doing that now with Dungeon Masters, a name just generic enough to have both good and bad SEO on Google. What sets it apart, however, is something pretty notable that Baldur’s Gate 3 fans will enjoy: It features two members of the RPG’s voice cast.

Astarion and Lae’zel voice actors Neil Newbon and Devora Wilde are both part of Dungeon Masters’ five-person cast. The show’s sessions will be led by dungeon master Jasmine Bhullar, who has already made appearances on both Critical Role and Dimension 20. Other cast members include Dispatch actor Mayanna Berrin and 13 Reasons Why actor Christian Navarro.

The series launches next week on April 22 at 9:30 p.m. ET with its first two episodes premiering simultaneously. Weekly episodes will roll out Wednesdays. The first two episodes seem to be doubling as an elaborate promo for the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons expansion Ravenloft: The Horrors Within coming in June.

I guess we’ll see as the series rolls out if it’s going to be mostly just an advertisement for Wizards’ upcoming products or if we’ll get some of the great storytelling we see in Critical Role and the like. But hey, even if you don’t play D&D yourself, if you like Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll get to see some of the cast together again.

While Larian Studios may be done with Baldur’s Gate as it moves on to Divinity, it does seem like Wizards of the Coast is planning on putting out a new game in the series. It owns the rights to it, which means it’s allowed to do whatever it wants with the Baldur’s Gate license, including making stupid decisions like greenlighting an HBO series set after Baldur’s Gate 3 led by certified art understander Craig Mazin.
