PC users on the Epic Games Store have a very limited time to claim a strange 3D platformer that lets them play as a spider-fox hybrid creature. The mascot platformer genre has had its share of interesting character designs over the years, but a half-spider, half-fox protagonist must be among the rarest. Luckily, Epic Games Store users don’t have to pay a dime to see this anomalous creature.
There are a few indie mascot platformers set to release on PC that fans should keep an eye on. For instance, Scratch the Cat is scheduled to release soon and is described by many as Crash Bandicoot meets Spyro. As for the current freebie on the Epic Games Store, though, it isn’t necessarily new, as it was initially released back in 2024 by an indie studio called Planet 47 Games.
Spider Fox Is Free to Keep Right Now
Until August 13 at 05:00 PM, Epic Games Store users can add the action 3D platformer Spider Fox to their libraries at no cost. The game normally costs $7.99 USD and has an average user review score of 96% positive, though it only has a handful of reviews. In Spider Fox, players can shoot webs, swing, and latch onto surfaces like a spider, but their head looks like a fox. While that may sound pretty bizarre on paper, the game’s story offers a somewhat convincing explanation.

In Spider Fox, a mad scientist has caused many poor animals to merge and create ridiculous hybrid creatures. The protagonist, a spider-fox hybrid, decides to use its Spider-Man-like powers to rescue these animals and break the spell binding them. So, Spider Fox could be seen as a cozy 3D platforming game about rescuing animals. That said, there are indeed some combat sequences, though the enemies are often non-living creatures, such as hostile snowmen and robots.
Spider Fox Gameplay Features at a Glance

Another under-the-radar freebie deal on the Epic Games Store is Happiness Market. Players have until August 14, one day after Spider Fox‘s promo ends, to claim the game for free. Happiness Market is a cozy business management game that lets players build their dream 2D supermarket with minimalistic mechanics and nostalgic visuals.
That is not all. Epic Games Store users looking for even more freebies can also check out Project First Contact. Until August 17, Project First Contact, which is a first-person horror experience, will be free to keep on the storefront. There are also the usual scheduled promotions that players can benefit from. For instance, two games are currently free to keep on EGS: We Were Here Together and Beacon Pines. Soon, another cozy game called Caravan SandWitch will join the list, allowing users to expand their libraries with indie titles at no cost.
