All God of War: Faye Spin-Off Game Rumors and Leaks Explained (April 2026)

The next God of War game has been shrouded in mystery for a while now, as developer Santa Monica Studio has kept really quiet about its progress. At this point, there is virtually nothing known about where the chapter will go. This has paved the way for a lot of rumors and theories to pop up while gamers wait for official God of War news. The biggest question of all is who will lead the story.

The rest of this article will feature spoilers for God of War and its sequel Ragnarok.

Kratos and Atreus parted ways at the end of Ragnarok, and it has raised a lot of questions about whether the next chapter will follow Atreus, Kratos, or continue to bounce back and forth between the two. With theories and hopes that the next God of War game’s setting features a new pantheon of gods, a lot of fans have been speculating that the father and son duo going on separate paths would be what opens the door to new mythologies. A fresh pantheon might be on the table, but the game’s lead protagonist could be someone who many weren’t expecting. Kratos’ dead wife Faye is rumored to lead the next chapter. All rumors should be met with skepticism, but Faye potentially being the protagonist is merely scratching the surface.

Every God Of War Game, Ranked

Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has produced many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos’ bloody PlayStation adventures are better than others.

Rumors Claim That Faye Will Lead a New Story, But She Won’t Be Alone

If the recent rumors prove to be true, then the next God of War will star Faye and Tyr as dual protagonists. Considering that Tyr is the Norse God of War, it would still make complete sense for the game to be under the franchise’s name. Also, it’s safe to assume that this would be a prequel, since Faye has been dead in the Norse saga’s timeline. A glimpse inside the realm before Kratos’ arrival could be a fascinating and unexpected turn for the series, and it would allow a little bit more time in the Norse pantheon before fully jumping to a new location.

What’s even more intriguing about these rumors is imagining Faye and Tyr’s dynamic as dual leads. All that fans really know of Faye is through Kratos’ flashbacks, so her relationships outside of that are a deep well to pull from. Faye’s scenes in God of War Ragnarok are short-lived, but she’s an essential piece of the story. Tyr gets more screen time in Ragnarok, but there is still so much to explore with him now that Odin is no longer using his likeness as a disguise. The possibility of seeing how such compelling characters would work together is one of the many aspects that make these rumors so exciting.

The gameplay is also rumored to differ from the recent God of War games by being more action-focused. The series is pretty action-heavy already, so it’s not really clear how a Faye and Tyr game would take this further.

The Multiple Pantheon Theories May Have Been Right All Along

Ragnarok‘s Valhalla DLC was what originally sparked the rumors that future God of War games would explore new worlds. Valhalla wasn’t just a fun roguelike expansion that brought more action for fans. It was a wonderfully done chapter in Kratos’ journey of self-acceptance and forgiveness. Kratos finally making peace with his past brings the character to a new point of growth that makes it feel like his time leading the series is nearly complete. Beyond that, the DLC’s various fights with Tyr may have been hinting at multiple mythologies all along.

Players can take on Tyr in several major fights, and a lot of fans were quick to notice that his arsenal evolves in these encounters. His spear and shield are far from the only items used, but what makes the weapon variety so intriguing is that they aren’t Norse at all. The act of beating Tyr in God of War Ragnarok is a challenge, and his lineup of diverse weaponry keeps players on their toes.

  • Shield and spear
  • Mesoamerican macuahuitl
  • Japanese katana
  • Egyptian khopesh

Tyr using such weapons has convinced some players that these are the pantheons that are set to be explored next. According to some pieces of the Faye God of War rumors, Mayan and Japanese cultures are indeed expected to be part of the story. If that’s true, then Egyptian gods and myths are also likely to be present. There have been hopes for an Egyptian God of War game for a long time. This rumored game may not be the way that some fans had imagined the addition of Egyptian gods, but it would still be incredibly exciting.

Merlin Might Join the Party Alongside a Bizarre Companion

When it comes to companions and side characters, this Faye-led story might be going a really trippy route. The most detailed pieces of these rumors are in regard to the protagonists and potential pantheons, but there have been a few interesting claims about the supporting cast. A floating sword that is actually Merlin the wizard could possibly appear, while a companion character that is a “gelatinous cube” helps players along the way. At this point, it’s really hard to say exactly what the leaks mean by “gelatinous cube,” but it’s definitely playing into the fun weirdness that God of War‘s Norse saga is filled with. The series is no stranger to sentient swords. These Merlin claims sound a lot like Atreus’ sword Ingrid, while the “gelatinous cube” could serve as a quippy Mimir-like character.

The Next God of War Game Could Be Announced As Soon As This Month

This is a rumor that plenty of God of War fans are hoping turns out to be true. What makes this claim the most intriguing of all is that it comes from a solid industry insider. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson recently mentioned on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast that a big God of War announcement in April 2026 is possible.

Henderson specifically mentioned that it’s expected to be the next mainline entry. This year has already surprised gamers with God of War Sons of Sparta shadow dropping and the confirmation of an original trilogy remaster. If Santa Monica Studio followed that up with an even bigger reveal, it would finally be the God of War news that fans have been waiting so long for. April is already halfway over, so only time will tell. If the April 2026 Sony State of Play is announced soon, though, God of War fans will want to check it out to see if the rumors are true.
