PlayStation 5 gamers should be sure to circle Thursday, August 27 on their calendars, as it’s set to be a particularly busy day for the platform. Most of the biggest third-party games release on PlayStation 5, with very few exceptions, and Sony also supports the console with exclusive first-party releases. While the console’s lack of exclusives compared to its predecessors has been criticized, there’s still no denying that the PS5 library is absolutely ridiculous at this point and just keeps getting better.
New PS5 games are released on a regular basis, ensuring that there is always something new to play. Significant new games are released for PS5 every month, with the releases often spread out to avoid competing with one another. Though it’s relatively rare, there are times when multiple big new releases all launch on the same day, and that’s exactly what’s happening on Thursday, August 27.
New PS5 Games Releasing on August 27
- Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
- Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
- Star Wars Zero Company
On Thursday, August 27, PS5 gamers are being treated to Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and Star Wars Zero Company all on the same day. Needless to say, it’s going to be an incredibly busy day for gamers on the platform, especially those that want to play the biggest new releases.
For those unfamiliar with the games, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is a collection of classic Metal Gear Solid games, with Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker making up the lineup. It marks the first time Metal Gear Solid 4 has been released on something other than PS3, which is something franchise fans have been waiting years for. Master Collection Vol. 2 will retail for $49.99 at launch, which isn’t a bad price considering you get three games.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, meanwhile, is an action-adventure game that serves as a prequel to the existing two Plague Tale games. Whereas stealth is a focus in those titles, Resonance focuses on action. The Plague Tale games are known for their impressive visuals, well-written characters, and engaging stories, so here’s hoping Resonance is able to keep the franchise’s momentum going strong. Those interested in the game should note that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will cost $59.99 at launch.
And finally, there’s Star Wars Zero Company, which should go a long way in filling the void left by XCOM. Star Wars Zero Company is a turn-based tactics game that is borrowing a lot from XCOM, including its permadeath and customization, but with a Star Wars skin. What’s been shown of Star Wars Zero Company so far has looked incredibly impressive, and it definitely seems like the game will greatly appeal to fans of the genre. If nothing else, it should offer a unique take on a Star Wars video game. Star Wars Zero Company will cost $59.99, so any PS5 gamers looking to buy all three of these at launch is looking at dropping about $170 before tax. Needless to say, August 27 is going to be an expensive day, but at least it seems like the games will be worth it.
