Avowed Gets a New Update for March 2026

Obsidian Entertainment releases Update 2.1 for Avowed, adding more fixes and improvements while also implementing another highly requested feature from the community. Avowed has been placed back in the spotlight this year following its first anniversary back in February 2026. Obsidian had a number of big announcements to share with fans, while also inviting a whole different player base into the Living Lands.

Originally launching for Xbox and PC on February 18, 2025, Avowed celebrated its first anniversary with a huge new update. The patch itself brought with it a lengthy list of fixes and quality of life updates, including a number of features that the community has been requesting for quite a while. Specifically, Avowed added new playable classes, the Quarterstaff weapon, a true Photo Mode, and the ability to change a character’s look in the middle of a playthrough. Avowed players also have a proper New Game Plus option after finishing the game, allowing them to start again with their attributes, unlocked abilities, enhancements, and more. On the heels of the 2.0 update, Obsidian is now releasing another big patch for players to download now.

Obsidian Has No Plans for The Outer Worlds 3, but an Avowed Sequel is Still on the Table

Obsidian head Feargus Urquhart offers a glimpse into the studio’s future plans, but those hoping for The Outer Worlds 3 are in for disappointment.

For Update 2.1, the patch itself is considerably smaller than what players saw back in February. However, Obsidian has once again turned to the community and its feedback, as it did for Avowed‘s huge 2.0 Update. With that patch, Obsidian added 3 encounters in each region that could respawn enemy units, allowing players to continue to farm these areas if they wanted. However, some players voiced concerns and frustrations about not being able to truly stop this from happening, so in this update, Obsidian added new toggles in the Combat settings, allowing players to essentially turn off the enemies from respawning in these areas.

The rest of the patch notes are a lengthy list of fixes for bugs and other issues currently impacting the experience for players. Photo Mode received a number of improvements, from fixing a bug that made the “Browse Photos” option not functional, to a crash that could occur if players attempted to open the feature near a Xaurip Elder. Console players also received a boost, as the color filter options on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will no longer look a bit grainy.

There are also some interesting and specific bug fixes in the patch notes as well, such as companions not looking at the Envoy during inter-region party camp conversations or an issue that caused the player to get stuck leaning to the right when in third person mode. Obsidian also addressed an issue that some players who owned the Avowed Premium Edition of the game experienced by not having access to Yatzli’s Obsidian Collection outfit.

In addition to celebrating its first anniversary, Avowed also launched on the PlayStation 5, opening the door for a whole new group of players. While the release and subsequent 2.0 update helped breathe new life into Avowed, some PS5 players were seemingly less than impressed by some of the upgrades. Specifically, some felt that Avowed‘s PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements were a bit lacking, as outlets like Digital Foundry noted that it doesn’t actually have any major improvements outside of having a slightly more consistent target resolution. Considering how some games really tap into the Pro’s extra hardware power and PSSR, many were surprised that Avowed didn’t really go in this direction, even when other former Xbox exclusives like Forza Horizon 5 launched with some unique PS5 Pro exclusive features.
