Avowed’s PS5 Pro Enhancements Are Minimal

Avowed’s PS5 Pro Enhancements Are Minimal

Avowed has made the jump to PS5, but some fans may be disappointed to learn that it offers hardly any PS5 Pro support. Despite launching to largely positive reviews, Obsidian’s 2025 fantasy RPG failed to make much of a splash, but the tides have seemingly turned in the wake of a massive anniversary update. With this latest round of fixes and new content, Avowed has a lot to offer on PlayStation 5, but unfortunately, noticeable PS5 Pro enhancements are not among them.

In January 2026, Obsidian announced that Avowed would get a PS5 version, just a little over a month before the new edition would drop. This latest version comes with a lot more than just support for a new platform, though, with a New Game Plus mode, three new playable races, and a much-requested Photo Mode also now available. It’s a hefty update, one fitting of the leap to a new console, but there’s still one glaring area where some Sony fans would’ve liked to see something more.

Avowed: 8 Best Skills To Unlock ASAP

Skill points are limited in Avowed, and as a result, knowing which abilities to invest in early on will have ripple effects throughout the whole game.

Avowed Has Minimal PS5 Pro Enhancements

As spotted by Digital Foundry, the brand-new Avowed PS5 edition does not have any noticeable differences in its performance on the PS5 Pro compared to the vanilla PS5. While the game is listed as “PS5 Pro Enhanced” on Sony’s storefront, Digital Foundry found no major improvements when playing the game on the more expensive console. It was slightly more consistent in maintaining target resolutions on the Pro than the baseline PS5, but these differences are small enough that most gamers are unlikely to notice them while playing. Avowed’s PS5 Pro performance was also identical to what it achieves on the Xbox Series X, suggesting there are no PS5 Pro-specific tweaks to take advantage of its more powerful hardware.

Unlike many other PS5 Pro Enhanced titles, Avowed has no PSSR or any Pro-specific graphics modes. Digital Foundry was quick to point out that some games, like Silent Hill F, have suffered from stuttering and similar issues when using PSSR, so the lack of that upscaling may not be a huge loss, but not having any major improvements elsewhere might still be disappointing. It may sting all the more in light of how fans have praised Avowed for its graphics and performance, which would’ve made the title a great fit for the hardware capabilities of the PS5 Pro.

It may be understandable that Obsidian Entertainment, as a Microsoft-owned studio, did not prioritize making Avowed run better on a Sony system than on Xbox hardware. Still, other former Xbox console exclusives have taken greater advantage of the PS5 Pro. Microsoft-published Forza Horizon 5 has a couple of PS5 Pro-specific features, including ray tracing. Avowed does have ray tracing on PS5 Pro, but this is also available on the regular PS5 and even on the Series S, although to a lesser degree. Not having any PS5 Pro-exclusive features may not be a dealbreaker for many gamers, but it may still feel like a missed opportunity to anyone who shelled out for Sony’s priciest console.

Avowed is not the only recent title to launch without much love for the PS5 Pro. In January, Code Vein 2 released without any PS5 Pro enhancements. Anyone with the Pro console can still enjoy more consistent frame rates and resolutions on many titles, but despite being out for several years now, system-specific enhancements still aren’t a guarantee, even for larger games. Despite that, Avowed‘s PS5 edition offers plenty of quality-of-life improvements and new content, so it’s still a potentially worthwhile game for PlayStation owners.
