Battlefield 6 Player Count is Way Down

Battlefield 6 Player Count is Way Down

Unfortunately for EA, the Battlefield 6 player count on Steam continues to dwindle, with the latest 24-hour peak a staggering 89% down from the all-time peak it earned near launch. Battlefield 6 was a massive success, selling over 20 million copies and becoming the first Battlefield to outsell a Call of Duty game in decades. However, with Battlefield 6 being a live-service title, it’s expected to keep that momentum going well beyond its initial release.

EA and Battlefield Studios have released multiple Battlefield 6 updates, fixing bugs, making balance changes, and adding new content for players to enjoy as part of the Season 1 rollout. Season 2 was originally expected to launch on January 20, but it was recently delayed, with Season 1 extended all the way to February 17. It’s possible that the lack of major content updates are playing a major role in the ongoing decline of the Battlefield 6 playerbase.

What to Expect From Battlefield 6 in 2026

Battlefield 6’s first Season may have been a mixed bag, but it’s the game’s 2026 support that will truly determine its fate as a live-service title.

Latest Battlefield 6 Player Count Numbers

According to Steam DB, Battlefield 6‘s all-time high 24-hour concurrent player count was 747,440. The latest 24-hour peak concurrent player count for the game is 80,839. This is still a great number, but it marks a staggering 89% decline. Battlefield 6 is still a popular game on Steam, but the 24-hour peaks continue to go down, which is certainly a troubling sign for a live-service game that is expected to keep fans engaged for years on end.

Battlefield 6 has a new update coming on January 20, even though Season 1 has been extended, and so it’s possible that update will drive more players to the game. The more likely scenario is that the Battlefield 6 player count on Steam will continue to drop until Season 2 launches on February 17. Once Battlefield 6 Season 2 rolls around, it will be interesting to see if the player count spikes back up. If it does, it could be an indication that Battlefield 6 is healthier than it might seem. If not, it could indicate that something radical needs to be done to bring lapsed players back into the fold.

Even though the Battlefield 6 concurrent player count is consistently dropping, the game can still not be considered anything but a runaway success. It broke franchise records and beat longtime rival Call of Duty. So even if it never gets close to its all-time peak ever again, Battlefield 6 can still be considered a big win for EA.

Why Has the Battlefield 6 Player Count Dropped So Much?

Besides the fact that Battlefield 6 hasn’t had a consistent rollout for substantial new content updates, another big factor in the game’s decline is likely competition. Extraction shooter ARC Raiders has become a viral hit, and that game’s success has almost certainly pulled players away from BF6. Like Battlefield 6, ARC Raiders is a live-service game, and so it will be interesting to see how its player count fluctuates over time as well.

Of course, it should be stressed that Battlefield 6 isn’t just on Steam. The game is sold on other PC storefronts, and it’s also readily available on PS5 and Xbox. We don’t have player count numbers for those other platforms, so it could be that the game is doing a better job of retaining its playerbase elsewhere.
