Gearbox has started a new Borderlands 4, giving players the opportunity to earn a new skin for all four Vault Hunters over the next few days. This is a community effort, meaning Borderlands 4 players will need to band together to unlock this new skin for everyone, and completion is not guaranteed.
Since the September 2025 launch of Borderlands 4, Gearbox has given away plenty of new Vault Hunter skins for players to use in-game. These skins are usually given out via Borderlands 4 SHiFT codes, which players must manually redeem to receive. SHiFT codes have also been used to give out Golden Keys, which are then used to get free in-game loot. These SHiFT codes have been extremely common in Borderlands 4, and there is no sign that Gearbox is going to stop handing them out anytime soon.

Borderlands 4 Community Challenge Could Reward a New Vault Hunter SHiFT Code
Over on X, Gearbox revealed that a new Borderlands 4 community challenge is live from now until February 16. To complete the challenge, the game’s community must collectively hit 500,000 revives in Borderlands 4‘s co-op mode. If it succeeds, the developer will release a new SHiFT code for the “You’re So Vein” Vault Hunter skin, which can be used across all four characters in-game. This challenge can be completed on all platforms where Borderlands 4 is available: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

If the Borderlands 4 community challenge is successful, then players will need to head over to the SHiFT website to redeem the upcoming SHiFT code. From there, players must link their gaming account and SHiFT account, after which the code can be redeemed on both the website and in-game. Redeeming SHiFT codes is very easy, and it’s unlikely there will be any great rush to redeem the “You’re So Vein” Vault Hunter skin if it’s released. Most SHiFT codes for Borderlands 4 cosmetics are valid until the end of 2030, so this would likely be the same.
Borderlands 4 offers tons of Vault Hunter cosmetics for players to customize their characters. It works the same way as previous Borderlands games, where players unlock different heads and skins to use rather than any in-depth character creation. It’s a winning formula for the series, and there’s no significant call for Gearbox to change course at this point.

Although Borderlands 4‘s player count has dropped significantly since its release late last year, Gearbox has plenty of plans to draw players back into the game. Its 2026 roadmap includes multiple paid expansions, the first of which is set to introduce a brand new Vault Hunter. However, the developer recently confirmed that Borderlands 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 is no longer in the works, which is undoubtedly a shame for those who were waiting for it to arrive on that platform.
