The next entry in the A Court of Thorns and Roses franchise will focus on 41 characters, although it is uncertain how many of these folks are distinct. Sarah J. Maas has officially revealed that the next two A Court of Thorns and Roses books are A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody, and fans will also have a quick pit stop ahead of their releases on October 27 and January 12, respectively.
Indeed, while these new ACOTAR books herald the new Valkyrie Cycle, another release gives fans a little more of the drama they love from the wider romantasy genre. By focusing on a wide cast of characters, A Court of Thorns and Roses: Fate and Favor lets players take to Prythian and enjoy their own versions of the alliances, rivalries, and court powers that dominate the IP.
A Court of Thorns and Roses: Fate and Favor Features 41 Character Cards
Confirmed on its box list of contents, ACOTAR: Fate and Favor focuses on 41 Character Cards, which could make Fate and Favor particularly appealing to fans who want to see the wider ACOTAR cast represented. The upcoming strategy board game is made by fans for fans after all. The individual 41-character lineup has not been officially revealed, but the most likely inclusions are the characters who sit at the center of Prythian’s political and romantic conflicts.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
Rhysand, Feyre, Nesta, Cassian, Azriel, Mor, Amren, Elain, Lucien, Tamlin, and Eris would all be strong candidates, alongside High Lords and other major figures tied to the seven courts. The sheer number of cards also leaves room for characters such as Gwyn, Emerie, Helion, Tarquin, Thesan, Kallias, Viviane, Beron, and Jurian, giving the game plenty of space to pull from beyond the Archeron sisters and Night Court inner circle.
With Fate and Favor releasing October 6 for $24.99, it could serve as a unique appetizer for the next era of ACOTAR, ahead of the Valkyrie Cycle beginning with A Court of Splintered Harmony. The release timing of this new board game, which is October 6, is obviously meant to catch fans eagerly awaiting ACOTAR Book 6 later that month (October 27). It’ll be interesting to see if there is any real connection here, beyond the shared IP, like as if Koschei the Deathless plays any major role (since he’ll play a role in the Valkyrie Cycle). The Valkyrie connection also makes Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie likely characters for the board game, especially following the events of A Court of Silver Flames. The rest of the ACOTAR: Fate and Favor box content includes:
- The Game Map
- 10 Event Cards
- 7 Player Boards
- 7 Score Movers
- 7 Fate Tokens
- 112 Influence Tokens
- 3 Dawn Court Gift Tokens
- 1 Autumn Court Hunting Grounds Token
- 1 Summer Court Blood Ruby Token
On October 6, fans will get their first official tabletop game version of Prythian, a massive roster of Character Cards, and a game built around the alliances and relationships that make the series so popular just three weeks before A Court of Splintered Harmony. Then A Court of Forgotten Melody will follow in January, continuing the Valkyrie Cycle, and perhaps this board game can also help bide the time in between.
