Some new screenshots from Marvel’s Wolverine paint a slightly clearer picture of the threats that Marvel Comics’ iconic antihero will face in the upcoming title. Marvel’s Wolverine is one of the most anticipated games of 2026 and will be exclusively available on PS5 consoles starting September 15.
The start of Marvel’s Wolverine will see the titular protagonist reunite with Team X, a mutant task force group formed by Nathaniel Essex. Despite his checkered past, Wolverine must fight alongside Mystique and his arch-rival Sabretooth to protect their fellow mutants from various threats. While Insomniac Games’ upcoming entry will be a violent action game, players will have an accessibility option to adjust and censor the blood and gore levels of Marvel’s Wolverine during combat. Both body dismemberment and visible damage levels can be adjusted accordingly.
Marvel’s Wolverine Shares New Glimpses of the Game’s Villains
Although the blood and gore content of Marvel’s Wolverine may test players, Sony stated that the game’s villains will also pose a challenge. According to PlayStation Blog, Wolverine will have to contend with forces that billionaire anti-mutant industrialist Bolivar Trask has at his disposal. Some screenshots revealed by Sony indicated that the rogue super soldier mutant Omega Red is possibly under Trask’s payroll, as he and Wolverine will reportedly cross paths in one of Trask’s facilities. During a hands-on preview that lasted two hours, Sony content communications manager Kristen Zitani stated that players will eventually fight a Sentinel Prototype built by Trask to take down any mutants. The Sentinel Prototype battle will reportedly require Wolverine, Sabretooth, and Mystique to work in tandem to take it down.
Who’s That Character?

No further details about the enemies that Wolverine and Team X will face were revealed in the August 13 blog post, so players must wait for more information. Sony also stated that Wolverine can use his Rage Meter to bolster his attacks and kickstart his healing factor. However, this feature will not always be an option for Marvel’s Wolverine players to tap into, as Trask will have some counters that can negate mutant abilities. Trask and his forces will sometimes use Ability Inhibitors that will not allow Wolverine or his teammates to fight at their full potential. Ergo, Wolverine will have to use methodical combos and quick dodging to destroy the inhibitors before he can use his healing factor again.
Using footage from previously-released trailers, fans pointed out some of the characters that will appear in Marvel’s Wolverine. While some character roles have not been clearly defined, characters like Lady Deathstrike and Ogun may also serve as potential boss fights for Wolverine and Team X to overcome. Additionally, given that Wolverine and Sabretooth are arch-rivals, it is possible that the two lifelong nemeses will cross claws with one another at some point during the game’s main story.
To coincide with the launch of Marvel’s Wolverine, Sony unveiled a thematic lineup of PS5 consoles and accessories based on the game. Some Wolverine-themed PS5 covers, a DualSense controller, and a PS5 digital console bundle will all launch on Tuesday, September 15. The PS5 digital console bundle will also come packed with Marvel’s Wolverine as a digital voucher.
