Capcom President Shares Why the Company Is Doing So Well

Capcom President Shares Why the Company Is Doing So Well

Capcom President and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto stated that the company’s recent success is due to a swap from an individual-led mindset in game development to a team-focused culture. Tsujimoto has served as President and COO of Capcom since 2007, sharing leadership duties with his father, Capcom CEO and founder Kenzo Tsujimoto.

Tsujimoto’s statements came just as Capcom celebrated its 43rd anniversary. Although Capcom has occasionally stumbled, the Osaka-based studio has since gone on a hot streak with consistent game releases. During the first half of 2026, Capcom released Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and Pragmata on all current-gen platforms. As of April, Resident Evil Requiem had sold over seven million copies worldwide within its first two months of retail availability.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Removing Deluxe Edition and Content Packs From Sale

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is officially removing the ability to purchase most of its DLC and Deluxe Edition content ahead of the upcoming Dark Arisen version.

While Capcom once produced games with an individual-driven mentality, that has since gone by the wayside. In a Famitsu interview (later translated by Automaton Media), Tsujimoto said that Capcom has since adopted a team-driven development cycle, rather than the previous method that depended on the creative vision of a single developer. Though individual game developers like Hideo Kojima and Hideki Kamiya have been intrinsically tied to the games they make, this carries the risk of some franchises being left behind if they leave a studio. While he did not name any one developer in particular, Tsujimoto stated individual-led game releases had limitations, especially when it came to pleasing the company’s shareholders. Tsujimoto said, “If that person doesn’t make one, there’s no next installment. The direction of the series becomes tied to the ideas of a single creator.” The company’s changes have already paid dividends, as Capcom has continued its hot streak of game releases.

Tsujimoto said that, following the change to a team-based mindset, Capcom didn’t mind if game sales temporarily slowed down, as the team-based approach would allow for Capcom to dramatically change. Plus, knowledge can be passed down to the next generation of game developers who work on a series, rather than be tied to just one single person. Tsujimoto stated that Pragmata, a new IP from Capcom, is proof of the company’s team-based mentality. Pragmata sold over two million units worldwide within its first 20 days.

Despite Capcom’s recent success, the Osaka studio is not just focused on the IPs that have brought it recent success. During Capcom’s 2025 integrated report, Tsujimoto stated that the company planned to release new games and ports of past IPs such as Devil May Cry, Mega Man, and Ace Attorney. Given that Capcom has several IPs in its repertoire, it remains to be seen what the gaming giant has planned.

As for the rest of 2026, Capcom will release the gritty action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 25. A free demo of the upcoming Onimusha title is now available on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S for players to try out. 2027 will be just as packed for Capcom, with titles Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Mega Man: Dual Override, and Resident Evil Veronica now in development.
