Dark Arisen Has the Perfect Endgame Fix, But Barely Uses It

Dark Arisen Has the Perfect Endgame Fix, But Barely Uses It

Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s long-awaited Dark Arisen expansion is set to finally bring substantial post-launch content to the Capcom-made RPG, but not expanding on the Unmoored World is a big missed opportunity. It’s been two years since Dragon’s Dogma 2 hit the scene, and despite the Unmoored World’s deep well of potential, Dark Arisen is making new map area Norgan the expansion’s focal point.

There are still a few months away before Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s Dark Arisen’s release date, but the team behind the expansion has been sharing a lot of details to ignite extra hype. RPG Site recently interviewed game director Kento Kinoshita and producer Naoto Oyama, and the two revealed some of the exciting features that players can look forward to. A dozen new Lost Rites dungeons, the snowy region of Norgan, and new challenges are on the menu, but the Unmoored World is still being neglected after all this time.

Why Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deserves a Sequel Sooner Rather Than Later

Dragon’s Dogma 2 may have only recently been released, but it needs to get a sequel sooner rather than later due to its unofficial remake status.

The Unmoored World is a cool concept, but it still has a lot lacking when it comes to what a robust endgame area should be. It’s still incredibly underutilized, with there being a shocking lack of meaningful content for an area that’s supposed to keep fans entertained well after exploring the rest of Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s map. The missions are short, the story leaves a lot to be desired, and a lack of new enemy types just makes the Unmoored World a letdown for many fans.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t a perfect game by any means, but there are a lot of good concepts hiding beneath the surface that would have benefited from more time in the oven. The Unmoored World is one of those main features that could have been one of the best parts of the game, but it remains pretty barren. On the bright side, Capcom has already moved to right some of the game’s wrongs by getting rid of Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s microtransactions ahead of Dark Arisen. Even though that’s something to celebrate, Kento Kinoshita revealing that Dark Arisen won’t really impact the Unmoored World in any major way is surprising.

There won’t be a huge impact on the Unmoored World with the expansion, but what we can say right now is that there will be some of the 12 Lost Rite dungeons challenged in the Unmoored World. There will be some kind of influence from adding the expansion, but it won’t have a huge impact on the experience.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Is Putting the Spotlight on Norgan

Granted, Norgan sounds incredibly interesting. A cold region filled with rocky, dangerous terrain is bound to be a fun shake-up for the game’s map. When talking about Norgan, Kinoshita confirmed that the Dark Arisen expansion is going to add fresh environmental hazards and challenges that are specific to the region.

The weather will be pretty harsh, so there will be blizzards that block your vision, and there will be gimmicks on the field – for example, there will be something related to icicles and something related to avalanches. In that kind of environment, we designed the game so players can think of how they can progress through that area.

It’s not like the Unmoored World is void of environmental obstacles. Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s red fog adds an extra layer of difficulty to exploration, but Norgan’s environmental obstacles already sound more dynamic in comparison. The Unmoored World’s wasteland-like design just isn’t as interesting as it could be. A Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC has been anticipated for a long time, but knowing that it isn’t going to make any major changes to the Unmoored World is bound to disappoint some players.

Just because the Unmoored World isn’t getting much love with the Dark Arisen expansion doesn’t mean that hope is lost for future improvements. There’s no telling what Capcom has planned for the RPG’s future beyond Dark Arisen, but a second expansion could always happen down the road. It’s not likely, but it’s at the very least possible. Capcom’s 2026 games have caused the company to be on a hot streak lately, and it’s going to be interesting to see if Dark Arisen succeeds at making Dragon’s Dogma 2 a stronger experience.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time. The Switch 2 port is set to be released on the same day as Dark Arisen’s launch, October 9.

Ultimately, adding Norgan instead of improving the Unmoored World may have been the necessary step in expanding the game’s replayability. It’s hard to say for sure whether focusing on the Unmoored World would have been the better move or not, but Norgan may prove to be the challenging and compelling region that many were hoping Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s endgame region would be.

The Unmoored World Could Have Been Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Bitterblack Isle

Bitterblack Isle was a huge dungeon added with the extended version of the first game, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Reusing the name for the sequel’s expansion is hopefully a sign that Norgan will be just as strong of an addition to the second game as the Bitterblack Isle region was to the first. It was an incredibly difficult area, and the atmosphere remains one of the best in the series.

Dark Arisen isn’t just adding a new region to the game’s map. The expansion is also improving Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s character creator with new customization options.

The Unmoored World may never get the chance to be Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s version of Bitterblack Isle, but Norgan potentially taking up the mantle is better than nothing. As the wait for Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s expansion continues, the DLC’s launch is going to be a big moment for the RPG. Dragon’s Dogma 2 may not have hit the same heights as other 2020s fantasy games like Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3, but Dark Arisen presents the chance to breathe fresh life into the game two years after its launch.
