Dragon Ball Super’s Moro Officially Returns in 2027

The Dragon Ball franchise remains one of the biggest names in anime, and while its future has felt uncertain at times, fans can rest easy knowing that Planet-Eater Moro returns in 2027. Dragon Ball Super’s manga has been on hiatus for a long time, leaving fans waiting to see where Goku, Vegeta, and the rest of the cast go next, but many fans ended up loving what the manga did with the Galactic Patrol arc. Beyond that, many fans are waiting to see what’s next after Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

For those unfamiliar, Dragon Ball Super‘s Manga introduced the Galactic Patrol Arc, which introduced Planet-Eater Moro, while later stories brought in characters and transformations such as Granolah, Ultra Ego Vegeta, and Black Frieza. A lot of that material has never made its way into Dragon Ball‘s biggest releases outside the manga, leaving fans with plenty of manga content they would love to see brought to life elsewhere. Now, it seems that will change in 2027.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Officially Confirmed Non-Canon

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus has officially relegated Dragon Ball DAIMA to an alternate timeline with no bearing on the main story whatsoever.

Thus far, most marketing around Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 has understandably focused on launch content. One of the most recent reveals, for example, is that Androids are now a playable race in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. Now, the developers have looked a little beyond that. In an interview with TheGamer, Xenoverse 3 producer Masayuki Hirano discussed early DLC/updates at Gamescom. When asked if Xenoverse 3 had any plans to introduce the Galactic Patrol arc (which mandates an appearance from Moro, at the very least), Hirano said,

” Of course, we’re already thinking about it. But the Galactic Patrol Arc was announced after development of the game began, so it won’t be there at launch. We want to introduce constant updates and DLC to Xenoverse 3, so in that sense, this will be one of the first updates.”

It remains to be seen how exactly Moro and the Galactic Patrol arc are added to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, with most of the early game updates likely focused on launch issues, patches, buffs, nerfs, and the like. But it’s reassuring to know that it’s set to come out not long after Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 does (in 2027). The Dragon Ball universe is quite extensive, and the Xenoverse version specifically is a wee bit different, so it’ll be interesting to see how Moro ties into the new plot of the upcoming DBZ game.

Not to mention, this should come as no surprise to fans. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 received content for a decade, with its final DLC being the end of an era that included 20+ paid DLC packs and major free content updates. Hirano’s answer does not outright confirm that Xenoverse 3 will be supported as long and as much as Xenoverse 2, but it doesn’t rule it out either. As such, fans can reasonably expect Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 to follow a similar long-term model, giving Bandai Namco plenty of opportunities to pull from Dragon Ball Super’s manga and other parts of the franchise that have been missing from previous games.

For years, fans have asked for characters like Ultra Ego Vegeta, Moro, Granolah, and Black Frieza to finally become core elements in modern Dragon Ball games. Some manga material has appeared in games through individual moves or references, but the larger stories have largely been left untouched. With Dragon Ball Super eventually returning to the anime and Xenoverse 3 now in development, there may finally be a path for some of that manga-exclusive material to reach a much wider audience.
