Koei Tecmo’s upcoming Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered has been hit with a major delay, pushed back from its previous March release date. The hack-and-slash franchise, set in the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, has become a staple of Koei Tecmo and Omega Force’s library, with a multitude of games across several major platforms. Dynasty Warriors has seen ten main-series games, with most games receiving both an Empires and Xtreme Legends enhanced version. However, Koei Tecmo’s next entry in the franchise looks to bring fans back to a classic game in the series.

Dynasty Warriors 3 marked plenty of firsts for the franchise following its launch in late 2001. It was the first game in the series to incorporate multiplayer gameplay, as well as the first to receive its own enhanced version with Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends. Koei Tecmo revealed in September 2025 that it was working on a fully remastered version of Dynasty Warriors 3 to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary, set to launch in March 2026. Dynasty Warriors 3 Remaster Hit With Major Delay

Koei Tecmo officially confirmed on Monday morning that Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered will not be making its March release date. The post only provides a vague reason behind the unexpected delay, simply stating that Koei Tecmo intends to “further improve the quality of the game” before its debut. Koei Tecmo does not provide a new release date with the announcement, suggesting that a substantial amount of work is still planned ahead of its full release. The company has not revealed much in the form of gameplay footage from the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster, only officially sharing some brief snippets with its official announcement trailer.

While Koei Tecmo has kept its cards close to its chest with the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster, some early details have been revealed. Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered was confirmed to be in development using Unreal Engine 5, the first game in recent years to move away from Koei Tecmo’s own Katana Engine. Koei Tecmo has confirmed that the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster will also include content originally featured in Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends, introducing Musou modes for unaffiliated characters, new items and weapons, and two new difficulties. The studio also teases that it has “evolved” the action system of Dynasty Warriors 3, suggesting more changes may be made than just sprucing up the graphics.

Dynasty Warriors Reinvented Itself With Its Most Recent Game

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered will return the franchise to its roots after its most recent game brought some significant changes. 2025’s Dynasty Warriors: Origins launched as the first new Dynasty Warriors game in more than half a decade, shifting the series into a more story-driven approach set in an alternate timeline. Players take on the role of a brand-new original character, Ziluan, venturing throughout ancient China and taking part in many of the major battles at the time. Koei Tecmo also recently launched a DLC expansion for Dynasty Warriors: Origins, with “Visions of Four Heroes” focusing on new storylines not featured in the original game.

Dynasty Warriors fans should have lots to look forward to from the franchise, between classic games and new entries. While Koei Tecmo is still focused on Origins and its upcoming DLC, the game notably only covers the first half of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, potentially setting up for a sequel to adapt the remainder of the novel.
