EA Sports FC, the new branding for the long-running FIFA soccer simulation franchise, has long been a mainstay for publisher Electronic Arts, but not without bumps—EA Sports FC Tactical is shutting down forever on May 7. As of this writing, nothing can be purchased in EA Sports FC Tactical, and the game will completely stop working on May 7.
While the timing is probably a coincidence, it’s worth noting that this is not the only development for EA Sports FC in early May 2026. On May 5, the PS Plus free games for May 2026 become available: EA Sports FC26, Wuchang Fallen Feathers, and Nine Sols. The latest entry in the franchise, then, is the headliner for PS Plus while a spin-off entry is shutting down just days later.

EA Games is Shutting Down EA Sports FC Tactical
Originally soft-released in May 2024, EA Sports FC Tactical was only playable in select East and Southeast Asian regions: Hong Kong, MAcau, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. Many hoped to see a worldwide release, but that was dashed earlier this year. As previously announced, EA Sports FC Tactical is shutting down and going offline permanently on May 7, 2026, just a few days away as of this writing. The turn-based mobile game was developed by KLab and EA, and this shutdown is due to EA closing underperforming mobile games in recent weeks.

Where EA Sports FC Tactical diverted from most EA Sports games is gameplay; as its name suggests, it’s a turn-based simulation game where players must make strategic decisions on the pitch, ranging from defending, attacking, performing certain skills, and so forth. Its final months in late 2025 and early 2026 saw many complaints filed about the game, leading to some speculation that this would happen, and it did.

At the very least, EA has announced pretty much all of these shutdowns months ahead of time, giving fans plenty of time to spend their final days with the title. Even Anthem’s shutdown was highly telegraphed by the company, with fans knowing that Plants vs. Zombies HD, Madden NFL 23, NHL 22, and NHL 23 are all shutting down between June and the end of August 2026. That’s still months away, and that’s not a courtesy always extended. For example, Warner Bros. recently shutdown Cars 3: Driven to Win with absolutely no warning to players.

It’s always sad to see a game shut down, and that’s no different whether it’s a major AAA game from EA or other publishers, a mobile spin-off game, or something completely out of left field.
