The Cyberpunk 2077 anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is getting a game of its own, but it’s not a video game. CD Projekt Red’s 2020 RPG has had a legendary post-launch recovery that has seen the franchise become a widely acclaimed fan favorite years after its tumultuous release. While it’s still looking like Cyberpunk 2077 won’t get its sequel for a while, there’s been no shortage of new material within the franchise.
CDPR has repeatedly teased big upcoming projects, although it had disappointing news for fans when it revealed it has no plans for another Cyberpunk 2077 expansion following 2023’s Phantom Liberty DLC. That’s not to say there hasn’t been any movement with the IP, though. The studio is still updating its 2020 video game, and there have been multiple spin-offs and crossovers announced over the past several years, and now that trend is continuing with an Edgerunners game.

CDPR Announces Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – Hunted Board Game
CD Projekt Red and No Loading Games have recently unveiled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – Hunted, a board game set to come out in September 2026. While fans may have been clamoring for more video game content, releasing the anime tie-in in this format is appropriate when considering the franchise’s roots. While the video game has become the most recognizable bit of media under the Cyberpunk umbrella, Cyberpunk 2077 is inspired by a board game from the 1980s. Edgerunners in turn, is based on the version of the world presented in 2077, so an Edgerunners tabletop game is something of a full-circle moment.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – Hunted is a co-op strategy game where one to four players complete missions in fast-paced, 25-minute sessions with real time constraints and a modular Night City map. It seems like a faster and more casual experience than the Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City board game that released in 2024, which retailed for more than twice as much as Edgerunners – Hunted. Unlike Gangs of Night City, this game is specifically targeted toward fans of the anime, too, as players will take on the roles of characters like David and Lucy, and the art style is in line with that of the show, rather than the video game.
Edgerunners – Hunted is available to pre-order now, with options in both English and French. For anyone who enjoyed the anime but isn’t keen on board games, there’s still more to look forward to. CDPR has confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners‘ second season is in the pipeline, although it’s unclear when it will come out. Without a release date for the new season in sight, it looks like the board game will beat it to the punch, but a surprise drop is always a possibility, too.

While fans look forward to Cyberpunk 2, CDPR has gone on a streak of unexpected releases. The studio confirmed a Cyberpunk 2077 arcade racing game is coming out later this year, as well as a TCG that proved massively popular among Kickstarter backers. The wait for a second video game could take a while, but there’s at least a diverse slate of other content to enjoy in the meantime.
