Fallout 4 Just Got a Brand-New Update

Fallout 4 Just Got a Brand-New Update

Fallout 4 has just received a brand-new update, which improves the game for players on Nintendo Switch 2. Developed and published by Bethesda Game Studios, Fallout 4 is a post-apocalyptic action-RPG that was first released all the way back in November 2015. The title is set in the year 2287, and puts players in the role of Sole Survivor, a pre-war citizen who emerges from 210 years of cryogenic sleep to find their spouse murdered, and their son kidnapped. Players must do whatever it takes to find their son while adventuring through a dangerous and unforgiving world.

Fallout 4 was a massive commercial success at launch, but its story did not stop there. The release of Amazon’s Fallout TV show breathed new life into the title, drawing in a surge of both returning and first-time players. Bethesda capitalized on this renewed interest by rolling out a bunch of different updates, most notably the 2024 next-gen upgrade, which brought native 60 FPS support, ultra-wide compatibility, and various performance improvements. In November 2025, Bethesda celebrated the game’s 10th anniversary with the release of Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, and dropped the game on Nintendo Switch 2 a few months later. However, the handheld version wasn’t without its issues, with players reporting a range of performance problems and glitches that hindered the experience. Now, it seems like Bethesda is ready to address those problems with a brand-new update that aims to fix various issues and enhance the game for Switch 2.

Fallout 4 is Being Review Bombed

Fallout 4 gets hit with a wave of negative Steam reviews after its new Anniversary Edition angers longtime fans of the 10-year-old game.

New Fallout 4 Patch Brings DLSS Support For Switch 2

Bethesda has released a new patch for Fallout 4 for Switch 2, which is now live and available for players to download. The standout addition of this update is NVIDIA DLSS support across both 40 FPS and 60 FPS modes, bringing improved image quality and performance to the handheld version of the game. It has also been confirmed that DLSS will automatically switch off during UI-heavy screens, such as the Pip-Boy, ensuring that the in-game text remains sharp and readable.

However, DLSS isn’t the only thing this new patch brings to the table. A major portion of this update is dedicated to fixing a variety of issues in Fallout 4. It resolves crashes that could occur during gameplay, including those triggered while saving or overwriting existing files, and improves memory handling to reduce instability during long sessions. Bethesda has also addressed problems with missing or unresponsive NPCs, inconsistencies in quest-related environmental triggers, visual effects issues, and missing buttons in trade menus, along with cases where UI text did not appear correctly.

Not only that, but the update also brings several performance and visual improvements, fixing environmental flickering, lighting inconsistencies, missing effects, and more. This update delivers on Bethesda’s promise to add DLSS to Fallout 4 after its release on Switch 2 back in February 2026, alongside fixes aimed at improving stability and the overall gameplay experience for players.

Players on social media channels like Reddit and Twitter have appreciated the addition of DLSS and the extensive list of fixes. However, many in the community are still disappointed by the continued silence around a new mainline Fallout game. Rumors suggest that multiple classic Fallout games could be getting remakes in the near future, but a true sequel remains years away as Bethesda is currently working hard on The Elder Scrolls 6. Some former Bethesda developers have even suggested that they wouldn’t be surprised if Fallout 5 gets outsourced to another studio, given the studio’s current workload. Fans of the franchise now hope that Bethesda will soon share an update on the franchise’s future.
