Fans Reveal the Classic PlayStation Franchise They Want to Come Back the Most

Jak and Daxter is the classic PlayStation franchise fans want to see return the most. Created in 2001 by developer Naughty Dog, the Jak and Daxter series holds a special place in PlayStation fans’ hearts due to its memorable characters, colorful world, and unique blend of platforming, exploration, and action gameplay. Although the IP was once considered one of PlayStation’s flagship games, it has remained largely inactive for years.

For some people, this has been concerning for a while because many iconic PlayStation games have not been released in over a decade. Fans of titles such as Infamous and LittleBigPlanet are starved for a new release, and despite MediEvil receiving a remake in 2019, players would like to see a sequel. This growing demand has sparked more discussion about whether Sony should reisist some of its older franchises rather than focusing primarily on newer IPs.

PlayStation’s Masterpiece Series That Will Never Get Another Game

Sony has left behind some PlayStation franchises that helped put the console brand on the map. These legends will likely never ride again.

Jak and Daxter Is the Classic Playstation Franchise Fans Want Sony to Revive

But when Push Square created a poll asking gamers which classic PlayStation franchise they want revived the most, Jak and Daxter finished in first place, with 468 votes out of almost 3,000 in total. The survey featured 20 games, with the rest of the top 5 including Sly Cooper at 340 votes, Resistance at 317, Killzone at 309, and MotorStorm at 227. Other fan-favorite games put up decent numbers too, with Gravity Rush and WipEout receiving around 170 votes, and Ape Escape at nearly 200 votes. However, Infamous is rumored to be making a comeback sometime in the future, so it’s surprising not to see this title on the list.

Additionally, there are some possible explanations as to why some titles on this list received fewer votes. For example, the recent new entry in the Hot Shots Golf franchise may have satisfied longtime fans who were looking for a comeback, which would explain the 43 votes. Similarly, Patapon collecting around 5 votes is possibly because the spiritual successor, Ratatan, is releasing in 2026. Conversely, titles such as SOCOM, Twisted Metal, and LocoRoco obtained fewer votes and have not seen a new release for more than 10 years. Any game that wasn’t listed in this poll could be voted for in the “other” selection, which only has about 86 votes.

It’s hard to believe that 20 years have passed since Jak and Daxter received a mainline entry with Jak 3. While Naughty Dog moved on with titles that have attained much popularity, such as The Last of Us and Uncharted, it would be great to see the long-standing developer revisit its critically acclaimed platformer. Studio head Neil Druckmann announced that Naughty Dog is working on a new IP while also managing Intergalactic, so hopefully the new game is an action-platformer similar to Jak.

Nevertheless, the strong results from Push Square’s poll reveal that interest in the franchise is still alive. Whether it’s a full remake, remaster collection, or an entirely new sequel, fans would like to see Naughty Dog work on the series again. With so many platformers like Sonic, Mario, Mega Man, Ratchet & Clank, and the recent game-award-wining Astro Bot receiving praise lately, it only makes sense to bring back Jak and Daxter to not only give gamers something else to play, but to also innovate the genre further. If Naughty Dog gives the franchise another shot, it would be a prime opportunity to redefine platformers, much like the original game did when it was first released in 2001.
