Although Bethesda has not yet revealed when The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel will hit store shelves, some fans believed that the game’s title reveal trailer may have left some cryptic clues that could point toward a possible release date. Sentinel will arrive over a decade after its predecessor, Skyrim, took the world by storm.
As the sixth mainline entry in The Elder Scrolls franchise, Sentinel takes its name from the largest city in Hammerfell, where the Redguards of western Tamriel call home. Although Hammerfell is known for the Alik’r Desert, the province also features jungles, swamplands, and coastal biomes that will likely be explored in the upcoming title. Game director Todd Howard stated that Sentinel will be made with Bethesda’s Creaton Engine 3, the successor to the engine used by Starfield. Additional details about Sentinel are being kept under close wraps by Bethesda.
A Fan Theory About Sentinel’s Release Date Makes the Rounds
Shortly after Sentinel‘s name was officially revealed by Bethesda, some fans claimed that the game could be closer to launch than what has been reported. According to ItsJabo on Twitter, a post from the TESVI subreddit focused intently on the graphical effects and timestamps of the trailer. At the 38-second mark, the title appeared with a sound and shimmering effects, staying on screen for 27 seconds before the video ended. Several curves appeared on the screen, and intersected with the Sentinel script logo at 11 different points. By taking the 38-second time stamp and splitting it in half, the math equation 3 + 8 = 11 was then formulated. Combined with the 11 shimmer effects and the fact that the logo stayed on screen for 27 seconds, the theory claimed that November 11, 2027, could be Sentinel’s release date.
The potential date would also fall on Skyrim‘s 16th anniversary, as the game released on November 11, 2011. Despite the hopeful guess that Sentinel could arrive in late 2027, Bethesda’s upcoming RPG may still be a few years away from arrival. Following the title reveal trailer, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg claimed that Sentinel‘s release date was still over two years away. Ergo, fans should not expect the next Elder Scrolls single-player title to arrive until 2028 or 2029 at the earliest. Additionally, Bethesda stated that it would not have anything else to share for some time, so fans will have to wait before more information directly from the studio comes to light.
However, one clue about Sentinel’s lore also appeared in the trailer. According to the prophetic warning of a Moth Priest of Hammerfell’s High Queen Iradne, Sentinel could take place in the year 206 of Tamriel’s Fourth Era, which would make it a sequel to Skyrim by five in-game years. With Hammerfell being an independent nation that chased the Aldmeri Dominion out, it remains to be seen what the fallout will be within the titular city of Sentinel and how the Redguards will be impacted.
While it is still years away from a release, that has not stopped Bethesda from selling official Sentinel merchandise. A black T-shirt and a black hoodie that feature the Sentinel logo are currently available on the Bethesda Gear Store for $34.99 and $64.99, respectively.
