Fighting Souls Fans Are Unhappy With The Beta

Fighting Souls Fans Are Unhappy With The Beta

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls fans are criticizing the game’s open beta after PC players encountered severe performance problems, crashes, and errors that are preventing some users from playing. Arc System Works’ Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is right around the corner, with the current open beta including 16 of the 20 launch characters, six stages, and full support for online matches.

As part of Sony’s strategy to bring a few of its first-party offerings to PC, mainly in the multiplayer space, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has found a home on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Unfortunately, the system requirements for Marvel Tokon are surprisingly demanding, requiring a minimum RTX 2060 GPU and an i5-8400 CPU, or recommending an RTX 3070 with an i7-8700, without specifying the target resolution or frame rate for either hardware configuration. As fighting games are particularly sensitive to performance issues due to animation timings, player reactions, and combo executions, making sure Tokon runs smoothly should probably be a priority for Arc System Works, but it appears many PC players are encountering issues.

PC Players Report Serious Marvel Tokon Performance Issues

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls fans across Reddit and Twitter are voicing concerns about multiple technical problems regarding PC performance. The official Marvel Tokon subreddit is filled with posts about frame-rate drops, stuttering, lag, gameplay slowdown, and graphical settings that do very little to ease the game’s technical faults. These issues do not appear to be limited to PCs under the necessary specs, as fans with RTX 3000 and 4000 series cards are reporting similar problems. Some users have even observed low GPU utilization alongside comparatively high CPU usage, indicating that there could be a processor bottleneck occurring with the PC version. However, performance issues seem to be only one part of the problem. Other PC gamers are encountering black screens, crashes to desktop, and Unreal Engine errors, among multiple Easy Anti-Cheat issues. Additionally, Marvel Tokon on PS5 was not exempt from beta bugs, as fans on PlayStation have also experienced network errors and PSN login loops.

The official Marvel Tokon Twitter account has acknowledged the PC gameplay and performance concerns as of July 25, stating that the development team is working on getting everything fixed. Follow-up posts from that account share some community-suggested patches, like disabling Nvidia Frame Generation and turning off the App Overlay, and advising users to play the game without any capture software running. As of now, there aren’t any official fixes directly from Arc System Works.

Players have experienced mixed results with the community suggestions that the Marvel Tokon Twitter account has shared, with many fans still reporting slowdowns and crashes even with these DIY fixes. The Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls beta is certainly serving its intended purpose by identifying problems before the game is released, but with a release date of August 6, many fans are left wondering how much Arc System Works can truly fix in the next two weeks. No beta extensions, launch delays, or PC patches have been announced for the fighter yet.

Stable performance is the cornerstone of a healthy fighting game, especially at launch when fans are trying to learn and eventually master the game. The fighting game community won’t be able to do much when it comes to combo muscle memory and timing if the game remains this uneven. Although Arc System Works has already begun outlining Marvel Tokon’s post-launch DLC plans, the studio now has more immediate PC issues to address. Despite all the issues, fans do seem to enjoy Marvel Tokon’s fast-paced fighting, but its PC problems may risk overshadowing the game during the most important preview period before release if something isn’t done soon.
