The Final Fantasy franchise will have a presence at Gamescom in late August, as Square Enix will share more details about the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during the event. As one of the most anticipated Final Fantasy titles in recent memory, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch on all current-gen platforms sometime in spring 2027.
As the finale of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will allow players to explore the planet via an airship called the Highwind. Regions such as Wutai and Mideel will be accessible for the first time in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Square Enix stated that feedback from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players was taken into consideration for the upcoming title to alleviate some concerns players had. In short, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will offer players proper guidance as a way to fend off open world fatigue.
Just over two months after Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was publicly unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2026, fans will soon have another chance to learn more about one of 2027’s most anticipated titles. Show host Geoff Keighley confirmed on social media that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will have a dedicated segment during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Keighley said that FF7 Revelation game director Naoki Hamaguchi will take the stage at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany, to share a new look at the upcoming game. However, Final Fantasy fans who are unable to attend Gamescom in-person are in luck. Gamescom Opening Night Live will be livestreamed on Tuesday, August 25, starting at 2:00 PM Eastern.
In interviews that took place after Summer Game Fest, Hamaguchi revealed that the world of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be affected by the looming threat of an oncoming Meteor. Hamaguchi stated that the Meteor will have an adverse effect on FF7 Revelation’s world, as the terrain will be noticeably altered. To fight back against Meteor’s threat, various Weapons, such as the Ruby Weapon and the Ultima Weapon, will make an appearance.
One of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s main changes to combat is the integration of the Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system. The FITS system takes heavy inspiration from the Final Fantasy franchise’s iconic Job system, allowing characters like Tifa to don the mantle of a Black Mage, or Cait Sith to become a dedicated Summoner. Each character can have up to four FITS to pick from, though Square Enix has not confirmed which FITS will be available for which characters. It is also unclear what details Hamaguchi will reveal during Gamescom Opening Night Live, which has left fans free to speculate on what Square Enix has planned for the upcoming show.
Given that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is crossing over with Final Fantasy 14, it is also plausible that some references or content from FF14 could be shown off by the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director during Gamescom. It remains to be seen what surprises Hamaguchi and Square Enix have in store.
