South of Midnight has just officially confirmed a March 31, 2026 release date for its upcoming PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 ports. South of Midnight was originally released on Xbox Series X/S and PC on April 8, 2025, meaning that these PS5 and Switch 2 ports will mark the end of the game’s Xbox console exclusivity.
Upon its April 2025 debut, South of Midnight earned a fairly positive critical reception. It currently holds a Top Critic Average score of 77 on OpenCritic, and while its critic recommendation rating of 68% isn’t too high, South of Midnight is still considered a ‘Strong’ game by OpenCritic’s metrics. Generally speaking, South of Midnight received praise for its striking art direction, its poignant narrative, and its authentic approach to American Southern folklore and culture. Conversely, South of Midnight‘s straightforward and repetitive combat was a common complaint among critics. South of Midnight has also won several major awards since its launch, such as The Game Awards 2025’s Games for Impact award and D.I.C.E.’s Outstanding Achievement in Animation award.

South of Midnight Is Coming to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 31, 2026
PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 owners will soon be able to experience everything South of Midnight has to offer, with the game officially heading to new platforms on March 31. South of Midnight‘s PS5 and Switch 2 release date was announced via a new trailer that introduces would-be players to the game’s world, characters, and overarching narrative, and showcases plenty of gameplay footage. This trailer, titled the ‘Critical Acclaim’ trailer, also features a handful of quotes from critics praising South of Midnight.
For those unaware, South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure game that sees players assume the role of Hazel Flood. As Hazel, players set off to rescue their mother from all manner of mythical creatures, all of whom are inspired by American Deep South folklore, such as Two-Toed Tom and Huggin’ Molly. On the way to face off against these creatures, players will platform their way through open-ended environments, engage in third-person melee combat with Haints, and use a variety of magical Weaver abilities to rid the heightened world of evil spirits.
South of Midnight will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in the form of a special ‘Weaver’s Edition’. This new version of South of Midnight will include the base game and the following pieces of add-on content:
- South of Midnight Artbook
- Original Soundtrack composed by Olivier Deriviere
- The Boo-Hag Comic book by Rob Guillory
- Music Video: Songs & Tales of South of Midnight
- Documentary: Weaving Hazel’s Journey, Director’s Cut
While South of Midnight‘s PS5 port can be wishlisted now on the PlayStation Store, neither it nor the Switch 2 version have a confirmed retail price. The standard edition of South of Midnight on Xbox Series X/S costs $39.99, while the Premium Edition costs $49.99. Given that the Premium Edition contains all of the same add-ons as the upcoming Weaver’s Edition, it’s possible that the PS5 and Switch 2 versions of South of Midnight will cost around $50, though that’s purely speculation at this point.
Of course, South of Midnight is just the latest in a long line of former Xbox console exclusives that have made their way over to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, following in the footsteps of titles like Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, and Grounded. The next former Xbox console exclusive to hit Nintendo Switch 2 will be Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on May 12, arriving around a year after it came to PS5, and 17 months after it debuted on Xbox.
