Gamer Builds Steam Deck Taser Security System

An ingenious player shared their custom Steam Deck protective case featuring a taser security system, surprising fans with the severity of the design. One of the benefits of handheld consoles is their portability and easy sharing, but the player opted to give their Steam Deck an unapproachable makeover.

Since its launch in 2022, the Steam Deck has easily become one of the most popular handheld video game consoles for its compatibility with PC titles. The console later received an upgraded OLED version, which replaced the original LCD model in late 2025. The Steam Deck also got much more expensive earlier in May 2026, raising its price by up to $300 for some models. Its value may encourage players to be more cautious around their portable consoles. One fan has gone to extremes to protect their Steam Deck from their relatives with an impressive case.

Epic Games CEO Throws Shade at Valve Over the Steam Deck Price Hike

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has harsh words for Valve regarding the company’s recently announced price increase for the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck Player Builds Custom Taser Protective Case

Reddit user ConroyyJenkinss shared their custom Steam Deck with a security system to prevent their family from touching it. As seen in the post, the case even includes an automatic taser sitting atop it. Using a Raspberry Pi, ConroyyJenkinss connected an object detection camera to a speaker and a servomotor. When the camera notices someone stepping into frame, a loud sound is played, and the taser is activated seconds later. According to the gamer, they built the elaborate case after their family kept draining their handheld’s battery without recharging it. Battery life is a major issue with the Steam Deck and other portable consoles, so fellow players were sympathetic to the user’s solution in the comment section.

The custom case is not only shocking, but also uncomfortable to handle, since the player 3D-modeled and printed a spiky cover. ConroyyJenkinss shared that “nobody touches their Steam Deck anymore” and their family is now forced to ask for permission first before playing on it. The fan did admit that disabling the taser system and removing the spiky case “is a hassle but overall worth it.” The post has earned over 7.7K upvotes and multiple supportive comments from impressed gamers. Modding hardware is a popular practice among gamers. One time, a user gave their Steam Deck a Nintendo DS makeover while another added Switch Joy-Cons to theirs.

It has been confirmed that Valve is already working on the Steam Deck 2, though its development is still somewhat secretive. On the other hand, Valve designer Lawrence Yang recently revealed that the company may work on more hardware with TMR thumbsticks, a feature already introduced on the Steam Controller. This led some fans to believe that the Steam Deck 2 will also include TMR thumbsticks.

It will likely be a while before players get a first look at Valve’s Steam Deck 2. The brand has been more focused on other hardware releases, like the recently launched Steam Machine and its upcoming VR headset, the Steam Frame. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how the next generation of the Steam Deck approaches players’ feedback, and whether it can give other modern handheld consoles a run for their money.
