I’m a Marvel Superfan and Even I Don’t Know Who This Rivals Season 7 Hero Is

I’m a Marvel Superfan and Even I Don’t Know Who This Rivals Season 7 Hero Is

Marvel Rivals has made its plans for the next several Seasons clear, with MCU-themed events and special modes planned for the remainder of 2026. Alongside this roadmap was further confirmation of the Season 7 heroes, with those being Black Cat and… White Fox? While I’m very familiar with Marvel’s Catwoman equivalent and one of Spider-Man’s most popular love interests, White Fox is the first Marvel Rivals addition to stump me. It’s not like she’s the first niche hero that the game has introduced to a wider audience, but as someone who owns over 100 Marvel Omnibuses, she was the first to leave me scratching my head.

I had seen Elsa Bloodstone a few times prior to her Season 6 debut, whether it be in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, the brilliant Werewolf by Night MCU special, or Kelly Thompson’s underrated Deadpool run. And I knew of Marvel Rivals’ Angela due to the interesting behind-the-scenes journey that saw her jump from Image comics to The House of Ideas. But White Fox is a character I had never heard of prior to the first time she was teased for Marvel Rivals, and I’d imagine the same is true for many other superhero fans. I’m not against the introduction of super niche characters, though, as it gives NetEase room to do something that feels more unique. Plus, it’s a chance for me to learn about a new character that’s part of a universe I’m deeply attached to.

The roles for Marvel Rivals’ next two heroes remain a mystery, but many assume that Black Cat will be a Duelist, which suits the master thief’s agility and sneakiness.

Who Exactly is Marvel’s White Fox?

For anybody as out of the loop on White Fox as I am, a breakdown of who she is and what she can do will surely be worthwhile ahead of her imminent Marvel Rivals reveal. A big factor in her obscurity may be the fact that she has just over one decade of comic book history to her name, unlike the many heroes who have been around since before the turn of the century. White Fox debuted in a Disney Korea webtoon before proving popular enough for a comic book debut, which took place in October 2014 via a Korean Avengers run called Electric Rain. Since then, she’s made numerous appearances across the Marvel universe, putting her superspy skills to the test every time.

White Fox’s real name is Ami Han, and she’s a Kumiho, which come from legends about nine-tailed fox shapeshifters that can transform into a beautiful woman. Unlike the Korean legend, Ami is a human that can transform herself into an ethereal fox, (think something like the kitsune wielded by Overwatch’s Kiriko, only larger and more intimidating). When fully transformed, she can use her claws to attack her foes, but she also has a partial transformation where she gains a glowing tail but retains a majority of her human figure. Her Kumiho DNA gives her access to the usual superhuman strength, speed, durability, and agility, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg. White Fox can also communicate with animals, absorb life energy, and hypnotize her enemies.

In addition to spy work, White Fox regularly teams up with The Avengers, being a proper superhero in addition to a government agent. Her heroism is an interesting trait given that Kumihos are hated due to real-world legends about them seducing men and eating their heart. Despite her kind being despised and hunted by the public — White Fox lost her ties to other Kumihos when her mother is killed, leaving her to feel isolated by the very people she protects — she does her best to protect others. The interesting source of her powers should lead to plenty of fun pre-match conversations, and White Fox’s ability to communicate with animals could allow her to be one of the few heroes who can communicate with Groot. It’s also likely to catch her off guard when others talk back to Rocket, as she’ll probably assume only she can understand him at first.

Marvel Rivals fans are so caught up in discussing the Season 7 characters and Loki event that they missed an accidental Thanos tease.

What Could White Fox’s Marvel Rivals Kit Look Like?

White Fox Mavel

Trained by her mother to use her Kumiho form while also being a skilled hand-to-hand combatant thanks to her time as a spy and Avenger, there’s obviously a case to be made for White Fox to be a Duelist. But since Black Cat is likely to fill that role, and because double-duelist Seasons are hugely unpopular with the Marvel Rivals community, it makes the most sense for her to be a Strategist. While her fox form could theoretically make her a Vanguard, her base form will likely be too “regular-sized” for her to suit the current lineup. There’s already a transformation-based Vanguard in the form of Hulk, too, so a shapeshifting healer would be more unique.

If White Fox does indeed turn out to be a Strategist like I’m guessing she will be, this could be a potential kit for her:

  • Primary attack: A claw-based melee combo that absorbs energy from the target. Like Overwatch’s Brigitte, White Fox dealing damage can heal herself and those nearby. With more energy absorbed, she could move and attack faster.
  • Secondary attack: A burst of healing that redistributes the energy to all teammates in the surrounding area, providing a larger burst of healing depending on how much energy White Fox has absorbed from enemies. This would be a risk-reward mechanic of sorts, though, as she’d be weakening herself by getting rid of her absorbed energy team-up.
  • Team-up ability (Emma Frost): Am I biased because I mained Emma Frost for months prior to Rogue’s release? Maybe. But also, Emma’s ultimate already nails hypnosis, so to smoothly adapt this version of White Fox’s power, perhaps she could get to occassionally wield a mini version of Emma’s Ultimate. It could be single target and require a precise shot to land like Mantis’ sleep.
  • Movement/additional healing ability: Small fox transformation that allows White Fox to turn into a Kumiho and speed across the battlefield. She can damage any enemy she passes through and heal any ally she passes through.
  • Ultimate ability: A full Kumiho transformation that turns White Fox into a larger beast, which can instantly be differentiated from her movement ability. She could be allowed to dash as much as she wants, deal far more damage with her claws, and heal/speed boost everyone that follows her (yeahhhh, I know it’s another healing circle Ultimate, but at least this one moves around and awards aggression). Additionally, every enemy she hits with her claws could take bleed damage or be anti-healed.

Obviously, this is just one potential build for the upcoming Marvel Rivals hero, and NetEase could always have something different in mind with its design for the character. After learning about White Fox, though, I’m really excited to see her in action. Seeing her transform into a giant fox should be super cool, standing out from the Hulk’s transformation which everyone has seen time and time again. With White Fox having less comic book looks to pull from due to her recent debut, NetEase can really go nuts with her cosmetics, too, which is an opportunity it’s sure to jump on. And though there are plenty of household names players may have preferred to see first — Captain Marvel, Ghost Rider, and Thanos to name a few — White Fox does have a ton of potential when it comes to lesser-known additions.
