This price increase was announced back in May and can be attributed to the ongoing market volatility and RAM crisis that has been affecting console manufacturers across the board. Even with forewarning of this Nintendo Switch 2 price increase, the impact of the console’s new cost will be felt by consumers looking to pick up the system later this year.
Rising hardware prices have been a hot topic in the gaming community throughout 2026, and almost all major consoles have seen a price jump in the past year. The PS5 and PS5 Pro have seen a $150 price jump since their respective launches, while the Xbox Series X/S saw increases of $100 and $150 for the 512 GB and 1TB versions, respectively. Now Nintendo has joined this shift in the console market and raised the price of its latest console, putting an end to the era of the $449.99 Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 is Now More Expensive Than at Launch
As of September 1, the price of a Nintendo Switch 2 has risen by $50 in North America, making its MSRP now $499.99. Additionally, the console has seen a price increase of $50 in Canada, €30 in Europe, and ¥10,000 in Japan. This price increase puts the Switch 2 on par with the cheapest Xbox Series S in terms of cost, but still cheaper than any of the PS5 models.

Unlike the other major gaming consoles, the Nintendo Switch doesn’t offer any cheaper alternatives. Although some of the major 2026 Nintendo releases have versions for the original Switch model, many of the upcoming Nintendo games like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave are skipping the Switch 1 entirely. This means Nintendo fans will need to pick up a Switch 2 sooner rather than later if they want to experience the company’s slate of upcoming games.
Even with this $50 price increase, there are some great Nintendo Switch 2 deals to make the console’s new cost sting less. Nintendo recently announced a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle that includes the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for $529.99, releasing on October 22. With this bundle, fans can essentially get Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for only $30 with the Switch 2 console.
Aside from Nintendo Switch Sports Resort and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the headlining game for the latter half of 2026 is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. This highly anticipated release has also leaked a special edition Zelda-themed Switch 2 console launching alongside it. While it’s unclear whether this special edition console includes a copy of the Ocarina of Time remake, interested fans may want to wait for official details before deciding to pick up a Switch 2 in the next few months.
