After the good news about Destiny 2 officially coming back with vaulted content returning to the game, a new chapter unfolds for Bungie, ending a long era that started in 1996. After Sony formally acquired the legendary studio, the company has gone through several issues, from the poor management of Destiny 2 to its cancelation and resurrection, all while Marathon launched to underwhelming numbers and still struggles to keep its players. Bungie has a lot of trust to earn back, but it’s now making the puzzling decision of shutting down its store.
Bungie Officially Shuts Down Its Store on October 19
In a Twitter post, Bungie announced that it’s closing the Bungie Store on October 19 until sometime in 2027, when the company will share more information about where to purchase Bungie and Destiny 2 merch. The Marathon Store will live on with its own domain, whereas Bungie will “build a new home” for its merchandise, with the idea of making it more aligned with the company’s goals and vision. There are sales of up to 77% on most Bungie and Destiny 2 merch, with a flat shipping rate of $7.77 for all items. The sale will run until October 19 at 9:59 am PT, and 50% of the proceeds will go to the Bungie Foundation. After that, though, the Bungie Store will go dark, and it will presumably be unavailable for at least a few months. With Destiny 2‘s vaulted content coming back to the game and the hype that this generated, the decision to now close the store is quite odd.
