LEGO Fan Builds Zelda Deku Tree, But Using a Completely Different Set

LEGO Fan Builds Zelda Deku Tree, But Using a Completely Different Set

A dedicated LEGO fan has created a custom-built Great Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda series, using an unrelated set and no extra pieces. The LEGO community is no stranger to taking sets and drastically transforming them into something completely unrelated. It seems something about the innate creativity LEGO produces in the imagination leads to fans combining their favorite franchises in the most awe-inspiring ways. One particular fan has taken this to the next level, shocking the Zelda and LEGO communities with his latest custom set.

This fan goes by the name of Minute_Food_2881 on Reddit and has previously made headlines for transforming a Lightning McQueen build into the Millennium Falcon. This set, dubbed the Millennium McQueen, left the LEGO subreddit speechless and praising this user for his seemingly unlimited creativity. And rightly so, as a single look through his previous posts provides more LEGO goodness, filled with transforming a Millennium Falcon set into the USS Voyager from Star Trek. Other efforts have seen the many Star Wars ships be wildly transformed, and even the Transformers‘ sets being completely remodeled.

LEGO Legend of Zelda Leak Confirms Set is Everything I Hoped

The latest leak about the upcoming LEGO Legend of Zelda set confirm piece count and release date, as well as a very important detail.

Custom LEGO Deku Tree Build

Reddit user Minute_Food_2881 created a custom LEGO Deku Tree build from The Legend of Zelda series using only the LEGO Bonsai Tree set. It’s not the only time some dedicated fans have attempted Zelda-related LEGO builds, as just over a year ago, a Zelda fan built Hyrule Castle and the Temple of Time out of LEGO. The main difference between these two builds, and what leaves this Deku Bonsai Tree hybrid even more impressive, is the fact that only the pieces from the Bonsai Tree set were used, no extras at all. Fans were quick to jump to praise, commenting on how they needed the instructions and that this is better than the official set.

This Deku Tree custom build is in tribute to the classic character seen in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which has already had a LEGO set released, so why not use that one? One of the most divisive aspects of this set, aside from the arguing over whether the LEGO Deku Tree set makes a great case for a LEGO Zelda game or not, was the price point. At $299.99, the LEGO Deku Tree was certainly not cheap, and while many fans picked it up regardless, some didn’t have that luxury. Other fans didn’t appreciate the extra elements of the set, such as it being a 2-in-1 set, as they believed this was a cause for the high price. These issues combined leave Minute_Food_2881’s custom-built set using only the LEGO Bonsai Tree as an appealing alternative at $49.99, especially if a build guide is released.

It’s nice to see creativity still runs rampant in the LEGO community, especially since that’s what it was originally conceived for. The innate power LEGO holds to let the imagination of children and adults alike run wild is second to none, providing nostalgia for some and crafting childhood memories for others. Even though LEGO released an amazing gaming set for under $60 this year, the official LEGO Deku Tree set unfortunately doesn’t fall in the same boat, leaving this alternative a real option for many fans. It’s unclear if this will be the last custom set seen from Minute_Food_2881, but given the fact that the Millennium McQueen set was constructed only a few days ago, there seems to be a high chance of a return.
