The first autographed card from Magic: The Gathering‘s new Star Trek crossover set has officially been pulled, and it’s one of the most highly sought-after cards from the set. The newest expansion for Magic: The Gathering marks the first time the card game has introduced autographed cards.
The final set of the year for Wizards of the Coast’s beloved card game brings the TCG to an iconic sci-fi universe. The Star Trek set includes a wealth of cards spanning the entirety of the franchise’s history, from the early adventures of Captain Kirk and the U.S.S. Enterprise to later series such as Jean-Luc Picard, Kathryn Janeway, and even the Lower Decks series. Magic also debuted its first-ever autographed cards in the Star Trek set, featuring signatures from beloved actors like William Shatner and Sir Patrick Stewart. Now, the first autographed Star Trek card, and perhaps the most poignant, has been pulled.
Autographed Patrick Stewart Magic: The Gathering Card Pulled
Local game store Meta Games Unlimited shared the stunning Star Trek pull via the shop’s Instagram account. The post reveals that the shop pulled a copy of the autographed version of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, showing off Sir Patrick Stewart’s signature emblazoned on the card. The Picard is one of seven different cards in the set to be released in the new Signature Headliner treatment, with fewer than 250 copies printed of each signature card. The autographed headliner cards are particularly rare due to their exclusivity to Star Trek Collector Booster packs.
The Captain Jean-Luc Picard, being one of the first signed cards to surface, comes as a fitting tribute to a legendary actor. A spokesperson confirmed on October 28 that Sir Patrick Stewart had passed away after battling Alzheimer’s and Lewy body dementia. Stewart’s death came just one week before the beginning of Magic: The Gathering‘s Star Trek set, which features multiple cards based on Captain Jean-Luc Picard and as the face Commander for one of the set’s pre-constructed decks. Patrick Stewart was 86 years old at the time of his death.
The launch of Magic‘s Star Trek expansion offers plenty for fans of the game beyond its assortment of cards. Wizards of the Coast recently revealed the suite of rewards players can earn in Magic: The Gathering Arena for playing during Star Trek‘s product cycle, ranging from free packs to exclusive cosmetics. The Mastery Pass also gives players even more exclusive rewards that can be claimed with Mastery Orbs, including player avatars based on Star Trek characters and special card styles.
Star Trek will officially close out Magic: The Gathering‘s 2026 release schedule with some major releases on the way for 2027. Magic has already confirmed the three new in-universe sets that will launch throughout 2027, kicking off the year with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm in February, while Kamigawa Titanbreach and Zhalfir will arrive later in the year. Wizards of the Coast also revealed its first Universes Beyond set of the year, teaming up with Marvel to tell an original story in the new Darkhold Destiny expansion. Magic: The Gathering is set to break even more new ground in 2027 with its wealth of exciting new sets.
