When a movie has as many actors in it as Avengers: Doomsday does, someone is bound to slip up and spoil something in an interview. Usually, that’s Tom Holland, but Spider-Man doesn’t seem to be in this big crossover movie, so someone had to pick up the slack. What I didn’t expect was that it would be Ian McKellen, who is reprising his role as Magneto from the Fox X-Men films in the movie which is set to premiere in December.
In an interview with YouTuber Jake’s Takes, the 86-year-old actor talked about his decades-long career across film, TV, and stage, and while talking about how the original X-Men movies had to pull off some of Magneto’s metal-bending destruction more practically, he mentioned that pulling off these types of scenes is much “easier” today thanks to advancements in special effects. He goes on to say he destroys New Jersey in a scene in Doomsday, before realizing he probably wasn’t supposed to say that.

Funnily enough, this is one of the few concrete pieces of information we have about what’s actually happening in Doomsday, as the movie’s many teasers have -mostly shown off character-establishing scenes, rather than moments that give us any clue as to the overarching plot. So even though McKellen has let this detail slip, there’s still quite a bit we don’t know about what is bringing together dozens of heroes across the Marvel multiverse. All we really know is that Robert Downey Jr. is at the center as Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom, but even he remains an enigma at this point.
For now, fans are speculating and trying to pull meaning out of Marvel’s cryptic teases, but even those theories are getting distorted by the constant stream of misinformation that surrounds the franchise, especially as AI-generated trailer mock-ups keep spreading online.
