With the hit online shooter already available on the big three platforms, NetEase addresses whether or not Marvel Rivals will become available to a new group of players on the Nintendo Switch 2. After a massive launch back at the end of 2024, Marvel Rivals has been working to retain its player base by adding new content and continued game improvements. The game saw a big player spike after its PvE Zombies game mode, and has also added some other unconventional content to the game like the Times Square map, intended to be a non-combat social space for players to hang out.
Despite the uptick in players, Marvel Rivals is now facing some strong competition from Overwatch. In February, Blizzard overhauled the experience, rebranding the game back to Overwatch, adding 5 new heroes, placed a greater emphasis on narrative, and made other sweeping changes. The soft relaunch saw a massive surge from players as February 2026 became one of Overwatch‘s best months ever. The added competition will likely be a good thing for both games, pushing the development teams to continue innovating as they try to appeal to players. In fact, NetEase appears to be looking towards adding a completely new player base as well.

Marvel Rivals Plans for Nintendo Switch 2
During a recent interview during the Game Developers Conference, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo was specifically asked if a NIntendo Switch 2 version of Marvel Rivals was in the works. Koo not only confirmed it was planned, but that it was actively being worked on as well. Unfortunately, that’s all the information that Koo would reveal as he went on to indicate that when the team was ready to share more, they would. Discussions and speculations about a Switch or Switch 2 version of Marvel Rivals has been happening for months now, so no doubt that fans are happy to finally hear confirmation that it is actually happening.
Last summer, Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun Chen revealed the big reason why the game wasn’t available on the Nintendo Switch 2 closer to launch. It wasn’t from a lack of desire, as the main reason for the delay is that NetEase wasn’t able to obtain a Switch 2 development kit for Marvel Rivals, an essential step for porting a game. Clearly, the issue has since been resolved, likely months ago if a Switch 2 version is in active development.

Additionally, Koo addressed whether Marvel Rivals could eventually come to even more platforms, such as Android or iOS mobile devices. Unfortunately, the answer to that isn’t nearly as positive as Koo admitted that Marvel Rivals isn’t actually going to work on mobile in its current state. If there is an eventual mobile version, NetEase would have to overhaul large parts of the game to better support touch-based controls and feedback, which the current game isn’t set up to do. Naturally, this would mean a completely different game built from the ground up for mobile devices, something which isn’t in the works right now.
For everyone else at the moment, Season 7 has just launched in Marvel Rivals, adding White Fox to the ever-growing list of Strategist characters, with Black Cat set to join at the midseason mark. Season 7 also adds Lower Manhattan as a new Convergence map, and players now have access to the Album System, essentially a place where photos can be saved permanently and shared with others. As expected, a new season also brings with it a massive update and list of balance changes. In this case, NetEase has nerfed the Ultimate Ability charge rate across the board, with the aim of keeping the core combat fun and dynamic, without relying too much on rapid-firing ultimates.
