Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently in the midst of a massive player spike, and to keep the ball rolling, Insomniac Games just dropped a new patch for the open-world superhero game. Said update focuses on the newly added Brand New Day suit, making key changes that the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 community requested.
Paying close attention to the Brand New Day costume — referred to as the “Fresh Start” outfit in-game — makes perfect sense considering that the movie it comes from is the main reason for the recent influx of players. Tom Holland’s latest outing as Spider-Man isn’t just critically acclaimed, but record-breaking in terms of performance, as it now holds the titles for biggest preview night, opening night, and domestic opening weekend ever. One of the many things that Marvel fans are loving about the film is Peter’s new, fully practical costume, so making sure that it looks as good as it possibly can in-game is crucial.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also the second-fastest film to reach the $1 billion milestone, as it’s behind only Avengers: Endgame. It’s tracking to make well over $2 billion.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s New Update Fixes Its Brand New Day Costume
When Insomniac Games first released its recreation of the Brand New Day suit, players were quick to point out some issues with the costume. While the studio nailed the core design elements, like the emblems and details paying homage to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s takes on the character, players weren’t happy with how the colors looked under the game’s lighting. More importantly, there was a texture issue where the lenses clipped through the mask slightly. Fortunately, both the color and clipping issues have been addressed by the update.
While a large portion of the Marvel’s Spider-Man fan base has proven to be incredibly nitpicky in the past, not to mention controversies about MJ’s face model, Peter’s model change, and the overblown fridge scene from the sequel, the lense clipping issue being problematic was a fair critique. After all, Marvel’s Spider-Man is home to one of the best photo modes in gaming, and, by extension, one of the most passionate digital photography communities. While the regular player would never zoom in so closely on the Fresh Start costume’s mask to notice the clipping problem, photographers were put off by the issue.

A list of the exact changes to the Brand New Day suit was shared by Daredevil731 on the SpidermanPS4 subreddit, and it is as follows:
- The sheen on the red portion of the costume has been removed, making it look more cloth-based and less rubbery
- The red color has been deepened to be more accurate to the costume worn by Tom Holland in the film
- The clipping issue with the suit’s emoting eyes has been fixed for photo mode users
- Suit damage has been added, making the Brand New Day costume more immersive
The quality of these changes and the speed with which they were implemented highlights just how much Insomniac Games cares about its fans and the friendly neighborhood hero. While the next Marvel’s Spider-Man game is likely still a few years away, the Insomniac-made Marvel’s Wolverine is launching in September.
