Meccha Chameleon is Outselling Cyberpunk 2077 Despite Massive Sale

Meccha Chameleon, a new hide-and-seek game that’s been making the rounds on social media, is currently at the very top of Steam’s sales charts. In the number one spot on the Top Sellers Steam list, Meccha Chameleon is currently beating out the likes of Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and a plethora of other well-known AAA titles.

Released on June 10, Meccha Chameleon is a brand-new hide-and-seek game that sees players take control of an all-white mannequin that can be painted in order to blend in with the environment. Meccha Chameleon currently has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam after over 35,000 user reviews. Given that the game innovates on a niche genre that’s already proven to be incredibly popular on Twitch and other livestreaming platforms, it’s only natural that Meccha Chameleon has become something of a viral sensation. And that virality seems to have driven some very strong early sales.

Meccha Chameleon is Steam’s Best-Selling Game Right Now

According to the official Steam Top Sellers charts, Meccha Chameleon is the number one best-selling Steam game in the world at the time of writing. When Meccha Chameleon launched on June 10, it quickly found itself thrust into the number two spot on the global Steam sales charts, coming just behind Counter-Strike 2, a free-to-play game. Meccha Chameleon held that number two spot in the week beginning June 16, this time coming just behind PUBG, another well-known free-to-play title.

Now, Meccha Chameleon is officially the best-selling game on the platform, and it’s managing to achieve this while in the shadow of Steam’s Summer Sale, where countless games have been given major discounts. What’s even more impressive is that Meccha Chameleon hasn’t dropped its price at all, and has instead retained the $5.99 price tag it’s had since launch. On June 26, Meccha Chameleon‘s developer officially confirmed that the game had sold 10 million copies. That number has likely increased even further during this past weekend.

Even when free-to-play titles are removed from the current Steam Top Sellers list, Meccha Chameleon is still outselling Cyberpunk 2077, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Dead by Daylight, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3. Most of these are major titles that already have well-established reputations, and all have been given decent discounts in the ongoing Steam Summer Sale. Binding of Isaac and Modern Warfare 2, for instance, have both been given a 90% discount, dropping their prices to $1.49 and $6.99 respectively. Given Meccha Chameleon‘s lack of a discount and its relative newness on the scene, it’s no small feat that the game is sitting at the very top of Steam’s best-sellers list.
