MindsEye CEO Apparently Found Time To Vibe Code An AI Feature

MindsEye CEO Apparently Found Time To Vibe Code An AI Feature

Mark Gerhard and Leslie Benzies, the two co-CEOs of Build a Rocket Boy, recently decided to take some time out of their busy schedules, which usually consists of telling people they’re redundant via LinkedIn posts and allegedly using spyware to snoop on their employees, to “vibe-code” some new “in-game voice assistant” for MindsEye.

Well, technically, ElevenLabs and the BARB co-CEOs actually helped vibe-code some nonsense for Arcadia, which is a “unique feature” within MindsEye. And by “unique feature,” I mean user-generated content. The AI-coded feature they managed to create–and by “they” I mean the AI–was “Arcadia Voice,” which is just… voice control. Did they really need an AI’s help for this? Congratulations, though, fellas, because now MindsEye can do something the Xbox Kinect could do back in 2010.

I vibe-coded a AAA game with the creator of GTA, the former CEO of Runescape (@laughivore), and their game studio’s Head of AI (@willgdjones).

We built an in-game voice assistant that understands the game state, can spawn weapons and objects, and even lets you create new objects… https://t.co/Xs2QRS0Gk6 pic.twitter.com/7TRemLD34K

However, there is one extremely impressive thing about ElevenLab’s video; it’s so unanimously hated that even the MindsEye community on Discord thinks it’s cringe. These are folks who actively enjoy the game MindsEye, by the way, so if they think this sucks, I think we may have truly reached the bottom of the barrel with this one.

In fact, the reaction from the 20 people who do still play the game was so terrible that Build a Rocket Boy’s new Head of AI, Will Jones, posted a lengthy statement on X in an attempt to quell the upset.

“We know that these will never replace the craft of developers, designers, artists, QA, or performers who care about what they are building (in fact, the coding agent is only useful because of the powerful system and beautiful assets already made by our colleagues),” reads part of Jones’ X post. “Games are creative, collaborative, and deeply human.”

Funnily enough, Jones also noted later in the statement that he is “new to game development,” due to the fact that Build a Rocket Boy is the first job he’s had in the gaming industry. However, I’d argue that Jones isn’t new to game development at all. In actuality, he’s new to asking an AI to develop video games for him. It would sort of be like if I said I’d got a new job in the culinary arts, because I’d just microwaved my very first ready meal.
