Starfield is an ambitious game. It takes the standard Bethesda RPG systems we’ve come to know and love and plasters them across distant star systems and thousands of procedurally generated planets. It doesn’t quite coalesce into the studio’s best game ever, but it creates the conditions for some pretty cool, pretty immersive exploration. Except for the loading screens, of which there are a ton. Including whenever you take off from a planet’s surface. Until now.
Thanks to a new mod nearly three years after the game was released, there’s an option for seamless takeoff in the PC version of the game. The very self-explanatorily-labeled “Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE (Beta)” mod by 0xBobby makes it so there’s no camera cut when you go to orbit. Your ship just goes up through the clouds, leaves the atmosphere, and eventually appears in orbit around the planet.
“This mod aims to remove the loading screen when taking off from a planet, and spawns your ship above the landing site for a seamless experience,” writes 0xBobby. “The mod is currently in beta, so expect bugs. The seamlessness of the transition will depend on the atmosphere and weather of the planet, I am working on making the transition even smoother.”
Since Starfield launched, one of the biggest requests from some players has been the ability to take off from a planet and fly seamlessly into space without a loading screen.

This essentially brings Starfield in line with space sims like No Man’s Sky that let you explore the galaxy to your heart’s content without being forced to watch a bar load at the bottom of some concept art. Seamless takeoffs are all well and good, but what about seamless landings? Don’t hold your breath.
“Since a lot of people have asked, I will share my thoughts on seamless landings here,” 0xBobby continued. “It probably won’t ever happen, at least not from me. Yes, I know of all of the tricks I could use, hiding the loading through clouds or entry flames etc, but even that would be way more complex than what this mod or seamless grav jumps do. Plus they don’t really appeal to me, if I want seamless landings, I want the full thing, No Man’s Sky-style. I may attempt that, but the chances of it happening are pretty much 0.”
Modders aren’t the only ones continuing to toil away on neat new features for Starfield. Bethesda recently confirmed it will continue working on new story content for the game to be released sometime during 2027. In the meantime, the studio will also continue to add paid “Creation Club” mods to the game for players on PC and console to check out.
