Modern Warfare 4 Reveals Open Beta Content and Changes

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is preparing for its second beta weekend, opening the experience up to all players and bringing with it even more content for fans to dig into. Fans are finally getting their first taste of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 ahead of its October launch, with the biggest portion of players finally getting to try the game early in the open beta.

Having wrapped up the first weekend for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, Infinity Ward isn’t standing still. Ahead of the big Open Beta period, the studio continues to tweak and fix the experience after a wave of negative reviews and backlash appeared online. While there were plenty of players who enjoyed the experience, recent negative reviews on Steam for Modern Warfare 4 highlighted issues like the time-to-kill ratio and movement tech that makes the game overwhelmingly fast with little time to react. Others continue to highlight the skill-based matchmaking system, a controversial feature that continues to be a big talking point for many. Regardless, Infinity Ward is pushing forward by revealing all the details for the upcoming open beta period.

Modern Warfare 4 Is Officially Fixing Call of Duty’s Most Exhausting Problem

Call of Duty has struggled with matchmaking for years now, but Modern Warfare 4 could finally bring the fix the series desperately needs.

As for what’s new, Infinity Ward is giving players a taste of most of the game, including the arrival of the new Call of Duty Warzone resurgence map known as Zodiac. Infinity Ward calls this map a compact combat zone set within a drone manufacturing complex. Players can respawn while their teammates are alive, with enemy eliminations and contract completions helping to shorten the timer.

The other big change to the Open Beta is the arrival of Ground War in multiplayer, a 24v24 game mode where teams battle across two Combat Outpost battlegrounds mixing infantry and vehicles. Two maps are being added for Ground War, the Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium. Both options offer very different gameplay as the former features more rural style combat across open fields and scattered farms, while the latter is more urban-focused with dense buildings and verticality.

This weekend, players can also experience the unique new Kill Block combat space in Modern Warfare 4. Offering a 3v3 or 10v10 Gunfight experience, Kill Block dynamically reconfigures itself after every 2 rounds to offer a unique experience each time. Using interconnected slabs, the flow of the match and the randomized loadout aims to keep things feeling fresh while adding a bit of mayhem through its unpredictability.

One thing players can expect over the next few days is constant updates from Infinity Ward. During the initial Early Access beta, Infinity Ward continued to release new updates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, adding new content like the Cachette and Lithium maps, while attempting to fix issues found by players as well. Many are hoping that these discoveries will lead to a stronger launch with less problems on day 1.
