One Mortal Shell 2 settings change will center players more into the constant action of the latest soulslike game to hit the market. Indeed, it is a bigger and more ambitious Soulslike game than the original, from everything in its combat to its world and exploration. Players can discover eight lost Shells, each tied to a different warrior and equipped with its own abilities, while upgrading melee and ranged weapons to create different approaches to combat. With no stamina system limitations, Mortal Shell 2 puts a lot more emphasis on constant action.
Indeed, that’s evident by Mortal Shell 2‘s reviews. On Metacritic, Mortal Shell 2 sits at an 84 Metascore after 39 critic reviews—Mortal Shell 1 sits lower at a 76 Metascore, while user reviews bring it much further down: 6.2 with 600 reviews submitted. Mortal Shell 2 does not have user reviews as of this writing, but the general reception from those who picked up the special Devout edition seems to suggest that it is a solid soulslike game to play in 2026. One little tweak will double down on that.
Mortal Shell 2 Settings Change Makes the Action Even Better
- Go to Settings
- Go to the Game Tab
- Go down to Camera Style
- Change Immersive to Action
Mortal Shell 2‘s default camera setting is set to “Immersive,” which is not a bad way to play for those who want to feel more firmly rooted in their shell. Coming out of a shell is sometimes the best life decision, even in the best soulslike games. Immersive places the camera angle closer to the character, so everything feels a little more badass. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if players change it to “Action,” then the emphasis isn’t on feeling great at combat, but being great at combat. The action angle pulls back the camera a little bit, so players can have a wider screenshot, letting them see and prepare for more in any given instance. That’s a game-changer for any soulslike game.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
To do so, players simply need to open their settings, navigate to the Game Tab, scroll down to Camera Style, and change it from Immersive to Action. It’s a simple quick fix, so even those who are not struggling with Mortal Shell 2‘s combat can easily check it out and see if it suits their playstyle.
Perhaps the only more influential decision in Mortal Shell 2 is which shell to use, since players can only fully upgrade three of them in a single playthrough (if extremely frugal). Genessa, Tiel, and Smert manage to stand out in that regard.
As GameRant wrote in its review of Mortal Shell 2, “Players who were put off by the first game’s rougher execution may find this new iteration is more than enough to change their opinions about the franchise. And gamers who are just looking for a great Soulslike to jump into will be satisfied by what they find. More importantly, it doesn’t feel like Cold Symmetry simply made a bigger Mortal Shell or plopped the same gameplay experience into a new environment. The studio figured out what worked, fixed much of what didn’t, and built a banger around those ideas.”
