Borderlands 2 is getting a surprise new release that adds more playable Vault Hunters to the roster, and they’re all familiar faces. Borderlands 2 came out almost exactly 14 years ago, as it launched on September 18, 2012, and it became one of the best and most beloved shooters of all time. Borderlands 2 is so popular that it may be loved more than its sequels, and its reviews on Metacritic have a higher average, sitting at 89 compared to 81 for both Borderlands 3 and Borderlands 4.
Despite getting some DLCs in 2012 and 2013, including the massively popular Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep D&D-like DLC, the game even got a new release in 2019 via Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary as a tie-in for Borderlands 3. The franchise is very much alive still, and recently, Borderlands 4‘s Bounty Pack 4 came out, and a potential Year 2 roadmap is rumored to be in the works. For those who feel nostalgic, however, a new release for Borderlands 2 seems to be on the horizon.
New Borderlands 2 Mod to Add Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Vault Hunters, More
Popular Borderlands content creator JoltzDude139 shared a post on Twitter with a short video from an upcoming Borderlands 2 mod that brings Nisha from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to the game, including her character model and skill trees. According to JoltzDude139, LJBreeze is working on the mod, and the plan is to add at least all Vault Hunters from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel first, including the DLC ones. From there, the mod could even add more Vault Hunters from the franchise or custom ones. As of now, the mod has a playable version of Nisha that is not complete yet, and it’s unclear exactly when it will be released alongside the other characters. To this day, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel‘s Claptrap is one of the most unique Vault Hunters in the series, and no other has hit the same notes.
The Borderlands 2 Vault Hunters are still some of the most beloved to this day, and they even returned to the franchise in various smaller roles, such as Axton and Salvador as Arms Race hosts in Borderlands 3. Still, the Pre-Sequel Vault Hunters are often considered some of the most fun to build around their skill trees due to how synergistic they are. However, the gameplay, bosses, loot, and DLCs in Borderlands 2 are arguably some of the best in the franchise, and a mod allowing fans to play as TPS Vault Hunters could be very fun and interesting.
For now, fans who look to the past of the series with nostalgia will be able to see another beloved Vault Hunter soon. Borderlands 4‘s FL4K and the Last Resort Story Pack 2 comes out on September 10, allowing players to meet the iconic petmaster from Borderlands 3 again (hopefully not for Gearbox to kill FL4K off).
The release will include the new DLC 2 Vault Hunter for Borderlands 4, called Loveless, The Hacker, who will join the cast as an assassin with powerful cybernetic implants. While there is an official teaser trailer for Loveless, fans will have to wait for further gameplay details.
