New Official Borderlands 4 Release Confirmed for June 25

Gearbox Software revealed tons of new content that is on the way for Borderlands 4, with paid and free content coming next week, as well as teasing the second DLC vault hunter known as Loveless due in September. It’s been a busy 2026 so far for Gearbox and its Borderlands 4 content, as the company released both Bounty Pack 2 and its first major Story expansion earlier this year, introducing the game’s first post-launch vault hunter named C4SH.

While Borderlands 4 seemed to get off to a fast start when it released in September 2025, one of the major criticisms levied at the game was a lengthy content and update drought, one that the Horrors of Kairos mini-event couldn’t seem to fill. Coupled with technical issues, player frustration over popular ability nerfs, and a declining player count, things weren’t looking great. However, things have seemingly turned around thanks to a revised Borderlands 4 post-launch roadmap, which saw Bounty Pack 1 not only arrive earlier than expected, but completely for free. From there, Gearbox has continued to add more content and players now have even more to look forward to starting next week.

Borderlands 4 Releasing A Zane To Kill For on June 25

In a new blog post, Gearbox laid out its plans for next week, revealing two major post-launch content updates starting on June 25. First up is Bounty Pack 3, a paid content pack called A Zane to Kill For, which takes players to a digital realm to figure out who killed Zane’s Digi-Clone. As the trailer reveals, players will be exploring a neon-soaked noir-style city using Zane’s personal arcade machine called Private Dick, fighting against new Glitched enemies that can swap places during a battle to keep vault hunters on their toes.

Naturally, players will have plenty of things to chase in this content as well. Bounty Pack 3 introduces an all-new Pearlescent weapon and 6 new pieces of Legendary loot, alongside Vault Hunter skins, a vehicle, and cosmetics for ECHO-4. The Bounty Pack also continues the Vault Card system in Borderlands 4, letting players complete challenges and earn cosmetics and 4 “re-rollable” pieces of legendary gear.

A day later on June 26, Borderlands 4 will be releasing a free content update called Takedown at Hadron Abyss. This is designed to be an endgame challenge, similar to Borderlands 4‘s Bloomreaper the Invincible raid. In this content, however, players will be exploring a new zone called Hadron Abyss, a submerged lab that is slowly falling apart and houses the zone’s boss, Child of Terramorphous. There won’t be farming spots here and spawn points are few and far between, so players will need to work together to overcome Borderlands 4‘s most difficult content to date. Naturally, there’s plenty of new weapons and gear to chase, and for those that want even more challenge, there are various challenge levels that can be activated to scale up enemy health and damage.

In addition, Version 1.8 also lets players purchase the DLC in two different ways. Instead of an all or nothing approach, Borderlands 4 players can buy Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For separately from the Vault Card 3 DLC. Both are priced at $5.99 a piece and Gearbox intends to do this for future DLC packs as well going forward. Gearbox is also looking into a similar method for the previously released Borderlands 4 DLC, but there are no concrete plans yet.

However, those two pieces of content weren’t the only big reveal either. Similar to how Gearbox revealed C4SH almost 6 months in advance for Borderlands 4, the studio has also revealed the second post-launch character as well. Loveless, the Hacker is set to launch alongside Story Pack 2 in September, and according to Gearbox, she’s an ex-Anshin hacker turned assassin. While details are still a bit slim, Loveless has a kit that features cybernetic-style weapons, as well as a digital worm-like virus that she shares her mind with. All-in-all, it sounds like Loveless will offer fans plenty of variety when she launches in a few months.
