New Official Dark Souls Release Confirmed for September 29

Dark Souls fans have been waiting for a new release in the series for a very long time, and they’re desperate for anything they can get their hands on. There’s great news: a brand-new Dark Souls release has officially been confirmed for September 29, leaving only a month before gamers can dive back into the lore.

The Dark Souls series was a major factor in FromSoftware’s rise in the early-to-mid 2010s, helping set the standard for the Soulslike genre that others would try to live up to for years to come. While it technically started with Demon’s Souls in 2009, mainstream success didn’t arrive until Dark Souls two years later. But there has been no new release in the series since 2018’s Dark Souls Remastered, and no brand-new mainline game since Dark Souls 3 in 2016. It’s not without demand – FromSoftware has simply moved on to other things, leaving fans desperate for more.

7 Reasons It’s Hard To Go Back To Dark Souls In 2026

It may be a pioneer in the action RPG space and a classic game in its own right, but in 2026, Dark Souls can be tough to pick up again.

Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning Vol. 1 Releases September 29

  • Price: $17.99
  • Pages: 112
  • Release Date: September 29, 2026
  • Author: George Mann
  • Artist: Maan House

Written by George Mann and featuring art from Maan House, Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning Vol. 1 has been officially confirmed for a September 29, 2026 release by publisher Titan Comics. The new release combines issues 1-4 of the Mother of Mourning graphic novel, which was originally released between December 2025 and May 2026. It comes in at a reasonable $17.99 – a fair price for more Dark Souls lore.

Titan Comics has released several Dark Souls graphic novels in the past, spanning all the way back to 2016. Several series have followed, including Legends of the Flame, The Age of Fire, and The Willow King. They’ve always been broadly well-received by fans, making the full Mother of Mourning volume a new Dark Souls release not to be missed. The full synopsis for Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning Vol. 1 can be found below:

Hope is a fleeting feeling for the Knights of Mourning. But the knightly order are willing to bet everything on their last chance of salvation.

In search of a hero to rekindle the flame, these knights turn to the Mother of Lillies, a soulless mummified saint with legends about her ability to restore balance to the world.

The knights believe that her lost soul will resurrect her and bring them their sought-after champion to guide them to solace. But madness looms in every knight’s mind and this long-awaited goal might not be what it once seemed…

Despite the drought of new Dark Souls releases in recent times, fans do have a decent amount to look forward to in September. Alongside the Mother of Mourning Vol. 1, there’s also Dark Souls: Redemption Vol. 3, the next iteration of the manga series from publisher Yen Press, which drops on September 22.

As to whether FromSoftware will ever revive Dark Souls in video game form – it’s anyone’s guess at this point. The studio has shown little intention of bringing it back. Given the enormous success of the Elden Ring series, it simply hasn’t needed to fall back on a new Dark Souls release at any point. Elden Ring has evolved FromSoftware’s Soulslike formula to include open-world elements, which is not exactly what Dark Souls was known for, and it almost feels like the genre may have moved on. Maybe one day.
