Bandai Namco has confirmed that Gundam Rogue Orbit will launch on March 5, 2027, alongside a new trailer showing substantially more of the upcoming action game. Gundam Rogue Orbit is an original Gundam story from Bandai Namco Studios built around high-speed Mobile Suit combat and a brand-new timeline within the franchise.
First revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026, Gundam Rogue Orbit follows ace pilot RE-X after being rescued while adrift in space and becoming the pilot of Gundam Helix. Rather than adapting the anime’s events, the game introduces its own conflict as humanity faces a mysterious threat known as the Apocalypse. Bandai Namco is also positioning the project as an action game that can appeal to players who may not already be deeply familiar with Gundam games, with fast combat and a cinematic presentation taking priority alongside the franchise’s familiar Mobile Suits.
Gundam Rogue Orbit Confirms March 2027 Release Date
The latest trailer shown at PlayStation’s September State of Play confirms that Gundam Rogue Orbit will release on March 5, 2027, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Preorders are now open, while the new footage provides a much clearer look at the game’s story and combat. RE-X and Gundam Helix can be seen fighting across sprawling environments on the ground and in the air, while several new characters and Mobile Suits are showcased throughout the almost two-minute trailer. One of the trailer’s biggest mysteries, however, is a vicious-looking black Mobile Suit with glowing red eyes spotted toward the end of the footage, though Bandai Namco has not revealed who pilots it or what role it will play in Gundam Rogue Orbit.
Customization appears to be another major part of Gundam Rogue Orbit. Bandai Namco states players will be able to modify Gundam Helix with different weapons, frames, thrusters, and Apocalypse Units, while also choosing its color scheme. Each weapon has unique actions and skills, letting players shape the experience around their preferred fighting style. The trailer also shows Helix quickly switching between ranged attacks, melee combat, and aerial movement while taking on impressively large enemies. Meanwhile, the hangar-style customization shown in the new footage has invited comparisons to Gunpla building, which seems fitting for a mech game centered around making a Mobile Suit feel like the player’s own creation.
The new footage also provides a better introduction to the game’s supporting cast. RE-X is accompanied by Vii, a Haro unit built specifically to assist Gundam Helix, while Sofia is a young woman monitoring the pilot’s movements. April commands the Stellarvane, an independent vessel fighting against the Apocalypse, while Big Paul leads a group of sand pirates and Elaine serves as a knight commander, accomplished leader, and Mobile Suit pilot. Taking the opportunity to create an entirely new timeline appears to have given Bandai Namco considerable freedom to build a Gundam story that newcomers can follow without first catching up on decades of anime continuity and characters.
More than anything, the latest showing makes Gundam Rogue Orbit look considerably more ambitious than its initial reveal suggested. Reactions to the new trailer have also been increasingly positive, although some players remain unsure about the unusual creature-like Apocalypse enemies compared to more traditional Gundam foes. Bandai Namco is even leaning into the model-building side of the franchise with a Collector’s Edition containing an exclusive HG 1/144 ARK-10 Gundam Helix (Earth Blue Ver.) Gunpla. With its March 5 release date now locked in, Gundam Rogue Orbit is beginning to look like one of the more substantial new Gundam releases planned for 2027.
