New RPG on Steam is The Elder Scrolls Meets Elden Ring

New RPG on Steam is The Elder Scrolls Meets Elden Ring

The open-world RPG genre has been dominated by massive adventures that let players step into dangerous fantasy worlds, create their own stories, and decide how they want to survive. From The Elder Scrolls giving players endless freedom to Elden Ring rewarding curiosity and exploration, there has always been an audience looking for games that make the journey itself the biggest part of the experience. Now, a new indie RPG on Steam is looking to capture that same feeling with a scaled-down version of games like The Elder Scrolls and Elden Ring.

Over the last few years, indie RPGs have started filling the gap as players wait years for The Elder Scrolls 6 or FromSoftware’s next fantasy world (of course, that wait hasn’t been as long as TES6). Games like Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon have shown that smaller studios can still create huge worlds where every nook and cranny is worth exploring. That same approach appears to be at the heart of AetherCycle, developed by Deep Interactive, as it packages grandiose worlds into a smaller, but no less dense package when it launches on Steam in November 2026.

Steam Officially Makes 6 Games 100% Free Until July 27, Available Right Now

Steam’s Free Weekend promotion is officially live now, with PC gamers able to download and play six games completely free of charge until July 27.

Check Out AetherCycle on Steam

AetherCycle is a first-person action RPG that blends the freedom of The Elder Scrolls with the challenging combat philosophy of Elden Ring, while leaning closer in scale and structure to games like Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. For those unfamiliar, Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon was the biggest Elder Scrolls-like game of 2025, and AetherCycle could follow in its footsteps for 2026 (but not without bringing its own world to the table). In it, players will explore a vast world shaped by the mysterious Cycle, a force that changes the balance of danger and rewards across the land. The adventure focuses on discovering ancient ruins, uncovering hidden paths, battling powerful enemies, and building a character that fits each player’s preferred playstyle.

    AetherCycle Features at a Glance

    • First-person action combat: Fight enemies and bosses using weapons, abilities, and precise timing.
    • Open-world exploration: Discover ancient ruins, villages, underground areas, hidden paths, and forgotten locations.
    • The Cycle system: Experience a world that changes over time, shifting the balance between danger and reward.
    • Character progression: Level up your character, improve attributes, unlock abilities, and customize your build.
    • Loot-driven gear system: Collect weapons, armor, and items with randomized stats, rarity levels, and unique effects.
    • Solo and co-op multiplayer: Explore the world, complete quests, defeat bosses, and progress alongside friends.

Beyond its combat and progression systems, AetherCycle is also leaning heavily into the feeling of adventure. The world is filled with locations waiting to be discovered, from peaceful villages to dangerous underground domains hiding powerful enemies and valuable rewards. The Cycle itself adds another layer to exploration, as the open world is truly living, not completely static, and players will need to adapt as they continue their journey.

While AetherCycle is not trying to directly compete with the massive scale of The Elder Scrolls or the difficulty of Elden Ring, it is clearly targeting the same type of player who wants to get lost in a fantasy world and create their own path. How it is received ultimately remains to be seen, but the game is immediately one of the best options for an Elder Scrolls-like RPG when it does release in November 2026.
