New Xbox Console Update Is Rolling Out Now

New Xbox Console Update Is Rolling Out Now

Microsoft’s latest update to its Xbox consoles has finally rolled out to all Xbox Series X/S users after previously being offered to Xbox Insiders. While Xbox releases console updates every month, many have been smaller patches recently and heavily focused on PC and Cloud features, with few noteworthy overhauls to the console experience. The latest update brings several noteworthy changes to Xbox Series X/S consoles, particularly improvements to the interface and how players interact with it.

While Xbox has been going through a period of uncertainty over the last year, Microsoft has continued to work to create excitement around the brand. The publisher will be celebrating the release of its next major first-party title, Forza Horizon 6, next month, and new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has reaffirmed Microsoft’s commitment to Xbox consoles following the infamous “this is an Xbox” marketing campaign. The latest console update continues to showcase the publisher’s commitment to listening to feedback and meeting players where they are across all facets of the brand.

An Xbox Game Pass Price Change Would Only Be the First Step

With Xbox rumored to be looking into changing the pricing for Game Pass, it’s the perfect time to overhaul another aspect of the subscription service.

Xbox’s Massive Console Update Rolls Out to All Users

A month after the features were offered to Xbox Insiders, Microsoft’s newest Xbox Series X/S update has been slowly rolling out to all users across both consoles. This update offers new customizable guide colors, increases the number of available groups to 10 (up from the previous two-group limit), and adds new profile badges to celebrate different milestones accomplished by Xbox players. Most notably, the update also adds a new feature to the Quick Resume feature, allowing players to disable it for specific titles.

A few new handy features not previously outlined to Xbox Insiders in the past month were also introduced. As part of the system’s Cloud Gaming interface, Xbox has added more ways to gauge streaming quality. Specifically, the User Selected Resolution and Network Quality Indicator options allow players to have more control over the way cloud-streamed games look and perform. The My games & apps tab now features a new Play History tab, allowing players to view their history without returning to the Home menu.

Xbox's president confirms that Microsoft's next-gen console is in development

The latest updates offer plenty of convenience to players, especially with the new Xbox Quick Resume settings. While the ability to jump back into a suspended game even after turning the system off is novel, online-focused games tend to have issues with this feature. Online titles often disconnect from servers when the system is turned off, forcing players to close them manually and rendering the feature somewhat moot. With the ability to quickly disable the feature, players can return to certain unoptimized games with minimal hassle and have more control over how they choose to play.

These new features may only be the beginning for console improvements, as Microsoft has recently revealed that Xbox achievements will receive a refresh. Achievements will now have a new visual appearance, and players will be able to highlight games in which they have earned 100% of the achievements. With Xbox continuing to listen to player feedback, the latest dashboard updates are likely just the first of what’s sure to be a promising set of upcoming improvements for the Xbox Series X/S.
