A new report has revealed that the Xbox X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller is set to launch on October 20, with pre-orders arriving very soon. The new Xbox controller, which is a throwback to the brand’s heritage as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, is sure to be an eye-catching addition to any gamer’s setup.

Xbox first revealed the Xbox X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller back in June 2026, at the Xbox Games Showcase. There, it was revealed alongside the special Xbox Series X25 console, both of which feature the classic translucent green the original console became iconic for. It’s a real throwback to another era, one that long-time fans of the brand will want to get their hands on. However, it was not initially known when the new Xbox controller would launch until now.

Xbox X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller Launches October 20, It’s Claimed

  • Price: $79.99
  • Release Date: October 20, 2026
  • Pre-orders open from August 26

According to a new report from Dealabs, the new Xbox X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller will launch on October 20, 2026. It says that pre-orders will open on August 26 during Gamescom, with a $79.99 price tag. It’s not clear exactly how many of these controllers will be available when pre-orders go live, but given how it taps into nostalgia fuel, those who want to get their hands on one should probably not wait around.

It remains to be seen whether the new Xbox controller will be released alongside the Xbox Series X25. Given that they’re essentially a pair, it would be surprising for them to launch separately, especially considering how they’re all about celebrating the brand’s 25th anniversary. However, Dealabs says that information regarding the console’s release plans “remains unknown on our side,” so it cannot confirm either way at this point in time.

Xbox appears to be gearing up for a significant Gamescom – its first since Asha Sharma took over as CEO. One insider has claimed that Xbox has a surprising announcement up its sleeve for Gamescom 2026, so it will be exciting to see what it has planned. This, alongside the pre-orders for the new Xbox controller, makes for a very exciting event ahead.

It seems Xbox has a few new controllers in development right now. While the X25 Special Edition controller only has aesthetic changes, a recent leak of the Xbox Elite Series 3 offered a look at brand-new features coming to the controller, which Microsoft has yet to announce. It’s always cool to see how the company continues to innovate in the pursuit of perfection when it comes to new Xbox controllers.
