The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially received a brand-new game from a popular IP, welcoming the launch of Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition with plenty of new features. The new Switch 2 release is an enhanced port of the 2021 Marvel action-adventure game.
The popularity of Marvel following the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has spawned a wide array of games based on the iconic comic book brand. Marvel has worked with different game studios to develop games based on everything from The Avengers and Wolverine to crossover games like Marvel Rivals. Games like the Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series have seen critical acclaim following their release, with both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 named as finalists for “Game of the Year” at The Game Awards. Now, another beloved Marvel property is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Eidos Montreal officially launched Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition on November 5. The game serves as an enhanced port of the 2021 Guardians of the Galaxy game that saw players take on the role of Star-Lord to lead the Guardians of the Galaxy in a mission to capture a rare monster that turns into an intergalactic threat. The Switch 2 version features multiple different performance modes for players to fine-tune their experience, including the 30 fps 1440p Quality mode, the 40 fps 1080p Performance mode, and a Handheld mode designed for use when the console is undocked. The Switch 2 version of Guardians of the Galaxy also includes support for both gyro and mouse controls when using the Joy-Cons.

New enhancements and control schemes aren’t the only upgrades coming to Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Switch 2 version. The Encore Edition comes with a set of brand-new outfits for each member of the Guardians, which are inspired by “1980s glam rock.” The new outfits are currently exclusive to Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition, with no plans revealed to bring the unique cosmetics to other versions of the game. Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition is notably only available as a Switch 2 game key card or digital through the Nintendo eShop.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition follows another major Marvel game that launched in late Summer 2026. Insomniac Games finally launched the long-awaited Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15, nearly five years after the game was announced alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Wolverine quickly became one of the best-selling games in its launch month, beating other big titles like NBA 2K27 and EA Sports FC 27, though it did not receive the same universal acclaim as some of Insomniac’s previous Marvel releases.
The new version of Guardians of the Galaxy also faces some stiff competition on the Switch 2, launching alongside one of Nintendo’s most-anticipated games of the year. November 5 was the release date of the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, completely overhauling the beloved Zelda adventure that marked the franchise’s transition to 3D. The game has already received incredibly high praise from fans and critics, launching with a score of 96 on Metacritic. Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition should serve as an enjoyable romp for Marvel fans, even against major competition.
